Seized motor!! What STX mods should I do while I have the motor out??

So I ended up popping my motor in my FR-S (I know FML!) so I am going to be dropping a lightly used motor in (my car has 80K miles on it).

Anyway I was thinking of doing a clutch for sure (which clutch?) while the motor is out but are there any other STX mods I should do while I have the motor out? Mounts? Baffled oil pan? Thanks for the help guys! Wish me better luck on the next motor!

Oh man, sorry to hear about your bad luck. Unfortunately I don't have anything to contribute to this thread. Any idea what caused it?

Not really, and I am not going to pay to have the motor torn down to find out either! It's in the bottom end for sure.

I have the moroso oil pan installed for cheap insurance. Attachment 97220
I also did an oil cooler and pressure gauge.

Things you can do for STX:

-Mounts
-Accessory pulleys (and belts)
-Oil pan & pickup
-Oil Cooler
-all the intake & exhaust & tune stuff

Sadly, clutch must remain stock or stock-equivalent.

I was under the impression that oil pan must remain stock in stx?

the cooler was approved recently?

tigermack 12-03-2014 02:14 PM

Clutch has to be stock or equivalent.

I'd do mounts, pulleys, all the power mods for ST*.

I am not sure if oil pan or oil cooler is allowed in ST*?

conedodging 12-03-2014 02:20 PM

Oil Cooler was approved in Dec. Fastrack for ST* is legal for 2015.

Shiet, more money to spend. Is it necessary, though? For autocross...

This is nothing related but I'm curious, you're using California 91 octane gas, correct?

Pretty sure. He doesn't have a tune.

conedodging 12-03-2014 02:28 PM

Necessary? I wouldn't know, I've only owned one for 4 months, and I'm just starting to dig deep in to STX prep.

BUT, it is a lot easier to do some of that stuff (oil pan) with a motor that is off the car. So if it's in budget, why not?

So someone says yes to oil pan and someone says no? I'd really like to do the oil pan for sure, since I'm sure I'll end up doing a few track days here and there.

I think I will do the mounts and pulleys for sure. Header back+ tune is going to kill me considering I am buying a whole freaking motor!!

In our non-humid climate I don't think a oil cooler is needed for autoX IMO.
