Help with tire size please (rpf1's and DD)
 

Hi guys,

I need some help with deciding on the right tire size for my application/s. My car is a daily driver first and foremost, with some aggressive 'canyon carving' and spirited driving on the weekends. I also plan on eventually making it to the road course near me this coming summer for some track days.

Anyway, I will be running Enkei RPF1's in 17x9 +35, and will be setting the car on some RS*R SuperDowns for now. I'm stuck between 245/40's and 235/40's. I know the 245's are closest to the factory overall diameter, with the 235's being slight shorter (and this may not be a bad thing.) I feel that 245's are a bit much for an NA setup, granted, I am stage 2, on e85, but still. I think 235's will be better fitted for my setup.

Whats the general consensuses?

I have 245/40 rs3s on my track wheels (17x9 rpf1), which I drive around town in occasionally because I'm lazy about swapping back. I do not feel like they are overkill for na (i've got filter, header, front/over pipe, and tune) and would gladly dd on them if I could afford to replace the rubber that often.

Thanks! I figured the offset of weight from the RPF1's might negate any sluggish feeling due to a heavier, more 'contacting' tire, but I wasn't sure. I am not worried about retaining the 'slidey' feel of the car. Honestly, I would prefer it not to slide unless provoked. I plan on going FI anyway, actually, it was go FI now, or wheels/tires. I would rather have more grip before I go FI ;).

I would go with 245's. Yes they are heavier but by going 235 you are essentially making the final drive ratio larger. Thus you will need to shift at lower speeds and your acceleration will hurt.
