AI versus Drop-In WITH TUNE

So I know and always see people saying throw a drop in, it makes more sense for your money for this car BUT

If I am getting an OFT

Wouldn't the gains from an Intake System actually make sense at that point vs. a drop-in

AKA will an actual intake be more utilized with the OFT vs a simple drop in?

No, Shiv recommends that you stick with stock intake. Other intakes can mess with AFR.

Vishnu/openflash are releasing a tune for the new Grimmspeed intake, so if you really want an intake I would go with that.

Yeah i saw that topic hence my question, basically even vs the grimmspeed intake should i get a drop in, will it still be worth the money?

At $50 it's hard to say for a drop-in. If it's reusable, probably. I think the Grimmspeed intake will show gains over the normal tune plus drop-in. I think you need to determine if the couple (at most 10 whp) is worth the price of the intake. If you want to stay NA, but still want an intake I would probably end up going with Grimmspeed personally.

Also, at this point in time OFT+Grimmspeed is the only (canned) open flash tune specifically made for making additional power with an aftermarket intake. If you are going to get a custom tune, you could probably get any intake you prefer.

I have a perrin drop in along with silicone inlet tube and I just purchased a grimmspeed intake for more stable AFR levels. Dropins with inlet tubes are perfectly fine but the grimmspeed intake appears to make a tiny bit more power along with more consistent AFRs.

Just out of curiousity did you rescale maf with dropin and silicone intake tube or are you saying the afr vary from day to day ?

Its weird Steve. I've tried to rescale several times with limited success but I think I've narrowed it down to the ECU using a different table while getting up to operational temperature and those tables are running poorly with my mod setups. The changes in weather seem to play a big role in this which is why I think there needs to be some tinkering to dial in whatever temp scale I can find. I haven't had much time to tune the car over the past couple of weeks/months due to other more pressing obligations.

I don't want to assume anything but it appears that Shiv might want to spend some time looking at anything that would affect fueling during warmup (ie MAF compensation IAT).

That or I need a new primary O2 sensor, which I guess is possible.

during startup their is a fair bit of maf compensation applied those tables are not in the OFT defs but can be found in standards RR defs and transfered to oft defs. Below tables have been adjusted to remove a lt of the compensation which throws off your trims during warmup.

Their is also a MAF sensor temp compensation table
