Too much oil

I just got my first oil change done at my local service center. I brought my own oil and I think they put in too much. I brought them 6 quarts of enous and they only returned maybe about 50- 100 ML back. Also I am not completely sure they drained all old oil since my engine wasnt fully warmed when I brought it to them.

Two Questions
1. How damaging is it to have over the 5.8 quarts?
2. Is it worth the hassle to get them to drain it?

i wouldnt worry too much but i will watch and tell them how much oil needs to go in for next oil change.

How about checking your dipstick?

I will once I get to somewhere that is level. Do you recommend checking when the engine is cold or warmed up?

Always when warmed.

Yeah, warm, 5 minutes after shutting down the engine.

I'd bet my booty that it'll be fine!

Now 1-2 quarts and I'd be worried about the crankshaft turning that into foamy milk! But it's most likely .3-.4 quarts over filled-- tops, that will burn off/not be an issue at all. When I worked on these, all the engines that took 5.8 qts were given 6 by lazy me. Usually after checking the dipstick, you'd be right on the max line anyway!

I always put 6 quarts in when I change my oil. A little extra won't hurt.

I don't believe these motors on average consume noticeable oil between oil changes. But it's a good practice to check your oil regularly and consistantly. I would not count on a dealer to notify you of any oil consumption issues if they should arise.

Too much oil=hot running engine

From my experience the engine ran much hotter when overfilled.
The engine bay was very hot and oil/intake temperatures were much higher on load and idle.
There was also unburned oil from the exhaust and the engine felt quite rough.
That was only 0.2 0.25 quarts over max.
After two days i removed that amount and a bit more.
All temperatures went down immediately and the engine ran fine!
Now i prefer an oil level in/over the mid range of the dipstick.

check dip stick, if its way over then u can just let some out and refill.. my friend had it way over for the whole interval from dealer. never checked it.. car not totalled yet lol

I always overfill by 50-100 mL, better to overfill a little than not put enough. Anything more than 3/4 of a quart I would be worried, other than that you should be fine.
