Painting Steelies

Hi All,

Just wanted the opinion of the community...

I have winter tires on silver steelies. The silver steelies are kinda ugly. I want them to be black.

So the question is paint or plastidip?

Secondary questions are...
What's easier?
What happens if I just paint them without priming them or sanding them down first?
How likely is Plastidip going to chip/peel?

if you dont prep and just spray paint, it will peel and chip, and fast,
so if thats the case just plasti dip it, long run it ll be cheaper and easier to work with *plasti dip will also chip but to a lesser extent and you can touch up easily

or paint it, it ll definetly look better than dip if done right

Not sure how long plastidip will last in winter driving... I would just paint black and touch up as needed. they're steelies and cheap anyways.

Get rustoleum professional primer and paint. Clean wheels really well, then prime and paint. If you put it on heavy enough, the finish is pretty good. Don't overdo it and get runs though. Mask the tire with newspaper and masking tape. I just did two trailer wheels this way, and believe it or not it looks very good.

You can use dollar store cards to "mask" the tires if the wheels/tires are already mounted.
