Cold Start Exhaust Tones
Wondering what you guys think of cold start tones on aftermarket exhaust. Watched about a million videos with a million different exhaust setups and 99% of them sound like semi trucks pulling a load at idle. No doubt I want to wake up the neighborhood under full throttle, but do I have to sound like a "header-back-delete" every time I press start? Thoughts/suggestions?

High Rev Cold Start noise reduction
Noisy high rev cold start is to warm up Cataylic converters for emissions purposes http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...6&postcount=17 Three things happen Idle is increased to 1700rpm Additional Fuel is added by offsetting MAF scale during warm-up Ignition Timing is retarded by 15 degrees during warm-up The retarded timing is what makes most of the additional noise. To fix alter the “Ignition Timing Post Start” table under “Ignition Timing- Advance” folder . Change all cells from -15 to -4 degrees and most of the noisy “bark” should be gone. .http://www.ft86club.com/forums/image.../wol_error.gifThis image has been resized. You could go down to 1200 rpm but then need to alter tables A though E. The MAF adjustments can also be scaled back by altering the MAF correction after start neutral and in gear tables as above. you might want to leave some maf correction in if your in cold climate. Don’t get to aggressive with your adjustments else your car may not idle well in very cold weather startup and you may also trigger a CEL code related to cat warmup. Whole thread on it here. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...rev+cold+start |
Thanks, that was so thorough! I'm using ecutek right now, but didn't tune the car personally. How do I transition from paying for tuning to doing it myself. Basically what do I need to be setup for DIY? Already have cable and license. I know this is a rookie question but I've never had a car that required much more than mechanical aptitude.

lol I agree. The aforementioned post looks so in depth that nubs like myself can't possible decipher what is what haha.

If you already have Ecutek cable and license you could make changes, the only thing that might stop you is your tune may be locked by your tuner so you may only be able to flash your tune but not make changes to that particular locked tune. you could always ask your tuner to make those changes shouldn't cost much I'm not familiar with Ecutek but talk to @Kodename47 he is a very helpfull Ecutek guy. |

If you're not into tuning, you can just put the car and gear and drive away right when you turn it on. As an AT owner, i just put my car into reverse right when i start it so i don't wake up anyone. i only have a highflow cat and resonator delete, yet it can be quite loud.
You're not suppose to warm up your car by idle anyways...start driving right away. |

I'll have to do that in the morning. Edit: Finally got around to checking, and they are missing from the MT versions as well, so disregard my earlier post. It isn't the transmission, it's the OFT definitions. |
