Pull header for oil pan replacement?

They stripped the threads on my oil pan at the last oil change yesterday. The communications were bad, so now I know today, and now I'm leaking oil all over the place. Will they need to pull the header for an oil pan replacement? It's a Borla EL.

Last time, they stripped a lug nut. They said it had been overtightened before they got to it, but I doubt that. Probably just a bit of righty tighty when they applied the air gun. Oops! I actually bought a bunch of studs just in case. I guess i should get an oil pan just in case.

I'll see how big the puddle is tomorrow morning. Might head straight in and demand a loaner. I don't want to wait and then destroy my engine.

Why do you take your car there again? I don't think "free" maintenance is worth anything when the people doing the maintenance didn't graduate elementary school.

I went there after the dealer I bought it from took 4 tries to get the USB working. Third closest dealer is about 30 minutes away. Sigh. And I was about to buy a Tundra. Meanwhile the Dodge and Chevy dealers don't know shit about their products and the Ford dealer is high pressure. At least the BMW dealer gave nice loaners, but I needed them too many times. Like 10.

Man that's just terrible service. 30 min away. They should be sending a flat bed to bring your car to them.

damn, now to have to be worried about them putting transmission fluid in your engine instead of oil

good luck with it man, id deff call them and make them send a flat bed to your location!

Could also just re-tap/thread the oil pan. maybe heli-coil

Or is it even stripped?
Did they just try to use the same crush washer and it is leaking around that?

Less dealer interaction = better.

They can train 16 year olds to do basic work, why can't the owner do it?

The only work I would take to dealer is warranty. And even then I worry...

My loaner rental is a Ram 1500 with the Hemi. LOL! I was thinking of buying one, so I guess I get an extended test drive. Doesn't do welll in the corners though.

Of course it doesn't. With the Hemi you're supposed to gas it in the corners to swing the rear end around.

Just make sure there isn't an FRS splattered on the back bumper after you do!

If you are going to try and repair it I recommend Time-Sert.

About 100x better than a heli-coil and stronger than just retapping the hole.

I stripped the oil pan on my Gixxer and did a Time-Sert repair on it. Super easy and strong as hell.

On a side note I rented a hemi truck and it used like 1 gal / mile. Was terrible on gas. Seriously like 10 mpg maybe.

EAGLE5 10-22-2014 10:59 PM

On my commute to get the kids and to work, it was about 20mpg. I wasn't planting it constantly. I was impressed, actually. However, the truck drives like a truck, fo sho.
