Shifter issues...here we go
Just got back from a 5 week euro trip, and had been letting my brother drive my car a bit (2013 brz) to keep it from sitting.
I got in it today and jiggled the shifter a bit to make sure it was in neutral, however the shifter will stay to the right side (5th +6th) and not default to neutral in between 3rd and 4th. This is even more annoying when you're in revered and you pop up the lever to go back to neutral and it gets stuck. I am running IHE and OFT....so I want to avoid taking it in for warranty if possible. Anyone else have this issue? |
Easy . Just make sure the shifter spring work fine . If not replace http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1279044

My only question is what happened to the original springs... I don't see how they could break easily, I guess you never know though. |
Will this job "tighten" the transmission also? After a trackday it became a bit sloppy..

Sloppy loosy goosey feeling shifter after a track day is usually related to trans fluid break down or fluid thinning out. |

PAO or Ester synthetic - they last longer & unlikely to shear in a hurry.

^ I would agree above statement even more so for this particular gearbox so it seems. Recently I ran some Gear 300, initially it was difficult to select 2nd when cold compared to the already sheared down stock oil which had done some 27K kms, temps were still quite cold here in the mornings, but after 2000kms selection improved just like the stock oil did with time - additives pack kicking in ? Currently running the ever popular MTF2 and although I'm finding cold gear selection much improved (not butter), I can't say that I'm 100% happy at this stage (only done 1K kms) when hot as I'm finding gear selection 2 & 3 harsher & more mechanical compared to the cushioned feel of the stock rec oil weight in Gear 300.
It's early days yet but I reckon this gearbox needs the best 75W90 you can get. |

Took it to a dealer today and they said that it's "nothing to worry about" and that I should try changing to transmission fluid because "I have high mileage" ??? |
