Beat-Sonic reverse cam install help !

So I have a 2014 FR-S with the oem touchscreen unit without navi

I bought the Beatsonic reverse cam with the BCUS3 adapter

I followed the instructions for the 2013 FRS DIY

The camera will only show up on my Headunit if I ignition ON/start up car with the car in Reverse gear.
If I start the car or ignition on with the car in neutral, the camera does not work and will not show up on the headunit

There is power in all the connections.

any help would be appreciated

That is what a reverse camera does, it turns on when you're in reverse so you see where you're going when you back up.

What did you expect it to do?

That's not what mine is doing.

I said, it will only work if I start the car with reverse gear engaged. (it will stay working until I shut the car off)

If I start the car in neutral it does not work at all. It will not work at all unless I do the above method once.

That's weird then... Make sure you have the correct power lead tapped and no wires are crossed. Sounds like the HU is not picking up the reverse signal for some reason, and thus not switching to the camera. Could be a ground issue somewhere.

the head unit in our cars requires the camera to have power immediately after the vehicle is turned on. The head unit does a check over the video-in signal immediately on start up. If there is no signal (camera not powered on), then the head unit disables reverse camera until the next time the car power is cycled.

Thats why it works if you start in reverse, you are powering the camera immediately on start up.

In that case... Just tap an always on power source.

mike7792 09-23-2014 12:17 AM

Right now the power source is tap from the accessory power. The same power source for the radio. Does that work?
it is always on once the car is started.

Then the power doesn't appear to be the problem... I don't know. My brz doesn't have this problem.... XD

I have a feeling this BCUS3 harness may be faulty? i have no idea but Beat-Sonic has yet to get back to me

aznatama 09-23-2014 09:58 AM

Not sure what the harness is for. In my install, the harness is only for turning the video pinout into an RCA plug for the camera. Since you're tapping a power source that turns on immediately, you should have no problem according to the other poster.

Are you sure the power is 5v and not 12v? I made that mistake at first. Have you used a multimeter to test your power to make sure it actually does come on right when you turn on the car?

phobos512 09-23-2014 05:38 PM

Are you sure accessory and radio are the same power? Whatever you have it plugged into isn't obviously turning on at the right time or else it'd work. If you check the impedance on the harness you can rule it out real quick.

Thanks for the input guys.
I'll give it a go on the weekend when I have more time to work on it.
