FR-S and Genesis
When I was going for a new car last August I had narrowed it down to two. FR-S and Genesis. I went with the FR-S and didn't think twice about the Genesis... until about three months ago when I did.
I already knew what the FR-S is good at and where it lacks. It's a lot of fun and quite a head turner. It's also quite deceptive looking to your average Joe/Jane. People would always say "It must be really fast!" and I would just laugh it off and tell them that it was quick at best. Now, to make one thing clear so this doesn't become a hate thread, I still have my FR-S and will not be selling it. With that said, I bought a Genesis 3.8 Track last week. Why? I wanted what I didn't buy a year ago. I can't say that I'm 100% satisfied with the Genesis but it's a faster, smoother ride. The clutch is decent but the gear box is a bit clunky. The traction control is not as good as the FR-S but when you shut it off you are far less likely to lose control than when you turn it off in the FR-S. I'm still getting used to the lower redline but it'll be ok. Interior is no contest and goes to the Genesis. Exterior win obviously goes to the FR-S but the Genesis does look more "adult" than the youth appeal of the FR-S. Handling goes to the FR-S but the Genesis is no slouch. They really are in completely different categories even though they always get lumped together. I know most people realistically can't have both in their driveway, but if you are able to then go for it. |
I recently test drove one. It happened to be the turbo automatic version. Imo it wasn't what I was expecting power wise. Could be because it was an auto. But when ever I tried to build boost it would shift even in manual mode. In a straight line it was quick. Still felt like a tank. As for interior I wish some of the things came standard for the frs. I told myself I wouldn't miss the moon roof. ( I'm in orrgon, it rains like 10 months of the year) and here I find myself wanting a moon roof. If I were to get another car. I would personally get an s2k.

Genesis and FR-S are too different in characteristic. But if you are a driver type of person, you wouldn't appreciate Genesis that much.
If you are looking for RWD sport car, convertible, and power together. Why not a used Lexus SC ? that thing is V8 powered, and all the luxurious you need. I totally agree with Chen, a more driver car would be the S2K. S2K is the best of both worlds (Miata + FRS) together |

i work for hyundai..
that being said, i LOVE my BRZ.. the genesis coupes is considered a grand touring vehicle, very heavy and not nimble. best bang for your buck though.. |

It's nice that you get to have both. I also test drove the Gen coupes and only went with the BRZ for the price and fun factor. I'll agree that the 2.0T is a joke, but the 3.8 was a much more impressive beast. Nonetheless, it was just too big and heavy for me. I wanted my first manual car to be lightweight and nimble.

The Genesis isn't a very good value. You can get a Mustang or a Camaro with a V8 for the same price as the 3.8. If you're going to be driving a larger car, you might as well get something that has 400+ horsepower.

genesis is a nice car, i really liked it. but doesnt handle like the frs. because of the weight and the weight distribution.
its really not a bad car, its up to the taste of each person. it took me 3 years to decide witch car i really wanted, i have looked the genesis, mustang and the frs. i went with the frs, just because i really really like how it handle in the corner. |
