is the BRZ audio compaitable with iphone 4S iOS 5.1.1

yesterday i've tried to use sync my iphone 4S with the auido unit and it was not syncing properly.

both my ipod and bluetooth were sync to the car. the blue tooth worked independently. however, the when i select to play a song in itune, the music will not play. i would then have to go to bluetooth player to play the music.

weird.

is there a way to update the soft ware on this thing?

According to the manual, it's only compatible with iOS 4.x or earlier, but I haven't really tried. It reads my iPod fine, but I am going to throw some songs on my iPhone and try that, as well.

During the brief time I got to use the BRZ's audio system, I was able to dock my iPod Touch to it and stream music using the headunit no problem. This was through the USB cable. I didn't get a chance to try the Bluetooth.

According to Wikipedia, iOS 5 came out last June with a couple of patches since then, so yes, my device was running iOS 5.x.x.

You can always use blutooth to stream music over. I use blutooth all the time to stream my music

Oh this had better not be the case... I just traded my 3Gs for a 4s with 5.1.1!

I can't imagine it not working with 5.1.1 …

I dunno man, I've had to deal with similar issues with Audi's new MMI interface not being able to stream bluetooth audio. Older versions could do it, and certain new ones can, but the bread and butter cars can't. Was surprised it actually almost deterred some customers until they realized how awesome the cars were otherwise. It's not gonna be a dealbreaker for me either, I just find myself getting continually let down by the nav/audio unit in this car.

Both bluetooth phone and audio streaming work fine for my iPhone 4 on 5.1.1. In fact it works the the head-unit in my last car. In my last car the phone would start playing music as soon as I turned the car on, regardless if I was in the BT Audio mode or not. This new headunit doesn't do that.

iOS 5 came out in sept/oct. You can find out what os version you're ruining in Settings > General > About

Factory audio has typically been a half assed effort for BT and device compatibility for iOS. They only test older devices on older software when most iOS users are on the latest major SW version.

This page shows the overall OS versioning rates http://thenextweb.com/apple/2012/03/...is-stuck-at-1/

iOS 5 has been out for plenty of time for Subaru to have tested and made sure it worked. I hope they also tested Andriod 4.x as well. Not verifying those is a huge oversight.

Ok - I have an iphone4 and "upgraded" to 5.1.1 (bc I have Apple TV). Sorta wishing I didn't upgrade. Anyways -

If you sync the Bluetooth from the phone to the car AND plug your phone in to the USB jack, the car will show both the phone, iPod, and Bluetooth buttons. On the iPod setting you can see the song is playing but there's no sound! If you press the Bluetooth button you get the sound, but it's very thin.

If you turn Bluetooth off on your phone, the iPod setting on the car suddenly works. And the sound quality is back.

So - there's a workaround, but you gotta decide if you're going to use Bluetooth or iPod before setting off (or change it while youre driving - at a stop light bc you have to dig into the settings on the phone, not to be done while driving).

I have been using a cassette tape adapter to play my iPod in my previous car - this is cool that you can pull up playlists, artists, albums, etc all from the car's touch screen. No need to dig into your phone. :). (pressing "next" on my iPhone required me to hold the phone, unlock the screen, then aim for the "next" button all while trying to drive with one hand on the wheel - this is SO much easier and safer!)

I have already abandoned audio streaming via bluetooth.

Now I just plug a big usb stick into the outlet filled with music.

What I've noticed is the that the on screen text message display will not work for iphone 4s 5.1.1. Another bug i noticed is if your connecting through bluetooth.. it will limit the sound.. until you get like a text message and the sound will be at full volume.

Plugging in my iphone through the usb I have no troubles with unless my bluetooth is on while i am connected. The nav system gets all confused so you have to just disable the bluetooth.

Does anyone know the specific model of the nav system? Maybe they have an update for 5.1.1

just wondering if anyone has issues with the text message not syncing to the nav system? i have an iphone 4 on ios 5.1.1
