CEL for a catless front pipe?

It says everywhere that you wont get a CEL for removing the secondary cat. Which makes sense cuz there arent any sensors after it.

I installed an invidia catless front pipe 10 days ago. Randomly the CEL came on. Today took it to the dealer, and they said it was cuz the removal of the secondary cat..$90 cuz aftermarket.

Is it possible to get CEL or are they bs?

I strongly doubt that's the cause of your CEL

fantah 08-05-2014 08:46 PM

There's no sensor there. That's BS

Sounds like BS. What code was being thrown?

Its possible you have an exhaust leak at gaskets near the 02 sensors , and the "fresh" air getting into system on overun is triggering cel. Might have been caused when you changed front pipe. Were new gaskets used on front pipe ? did you change/remove overpipe ? assume you still have standard headers

what was code thrown up ?

probably that CEL isnt relating to your front pipe. pull the code first

my car have N1 catless frontpipe installed for 6 months now, dont see CEL at all. i have stock header, motiv overpipe, N1 catless frtonpipe and Nameless exhaust. make sure all the bolts are tighten up well. if there is leak which most likely cause the CEL

i called for the code. they said P0420

ran my car with elm. P0420- catalyst system below threshold bank 1

what does that mean exactly and how does the car know about a catalyst problem..?

I believe it looks at the reading from both o2 sensors one before cat and one after in headers and compares and works out if cat is working efficiently.

Either an o2 sensor has a problem (would be rear one else you car would be running crap as the front one is used for fueling) or you have exhaust leak or cat in headers is damaged/removed.

I'll put a dollar on an exhaust leak
