traction light, engine light = cam sprocket , ecu

Only 5k miles, what could possibly have gone wrong to cause cam sprocket to be bad?

well then, search is indeed my friend. I am very saddened now that my car may be a total piece of engineering crap lmao, it's so damn fun to drive. I hope they have fixed this issue for real by now and this will be the last time i deal with it after i get it back.

it would be helpful if you provided a link or gave an explanation...

Basically, car had weird surging idle problems, especially at low speeds in say my parking garage. Friday started the car up, engine light and traction control light came on, limped it to subaru , they told me it was the cam sensor miss aligned because of "vibration". They cleared the code, I drove it home. Saturday I wake up go start the car, limp mode, take it back, they called a Toyota rep, who then walked him through a diagnosis over the phone, told the mechanic to replace the ECU and Cam Sprocket. Supposedly will have parts in by middle of next week.

Was just informed my parts have finally come in and they will begin work on it tomorrow. I asked them to put the cam sprocket side by side so i can see if there is any damage done to it or possibly it's a new part altogether since it didn't make any sense to me that a car with only 5k miles has damage to the cam sprocket already. they totally didn't provide any loaner car, kept lying to me about they only have 2 and 1 lady wasn't returning hers but maybe tomorrow lmao.

There was quite a few cars with the same issue from early 2013 model year cars. Some of them it got so bad they had to replace the long block do to the damage it caused to the engine.

I would have a look through this thread: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15577

When I first got mine had cam sensor code pop up that wouldn't clear even with new sensor. They replaced my ecu and everything was good. Funny thing is I found out Monday that Subaru here in CT got me a European model ecu lol

This was a huge apocalyptic problem about a year ago, the sky was falling, the world was on fire and babies and kittens were being punched.

Eventually enough data was collected and Subaru/Toyota released a few fixes, new cam, ECU, etc. In the end it's a temporary problem, those with severe damage were very rare.

I hope you're being sarcastic... Seriously, don't get paranoid because a problem here or there creeps up. If someone has a problem they want to tell EVERYONE, they hit the internet and rage. If someone is happy they tell one or two people. I think the percentage was still extremely small (less than 1-2%?) for the estimated number of actual problems. Enjoy the car, and don't grenade if there's a hitch here or there. No car is perfect.

Oh I enjoy the hell out of my car, it's just the first time I've had problems with a brand new car so early :)... now news on the install yet, maybe tomorrow I'll get to park this gas guzzling 750il and get back to scooby goodness

This problem is still current and larger than you give credit for it being. I am sick of fixing it to be honest on locals cars. The problem was never fixed and still to this day occurs. Both toyota and subaru just throw parts at it in hopes of it fixing it and it does............ temporarily.

Are you seeing problems on the newer cars or is it still the older ones trickling in? I was under the impression it was largely resolved because the megathread and other similar threads seemed to die and became much less frequent Most owners were saying it had been fixed and hadn't come back, and those who did have recurring problems were treated with random replacement parts before the TSB, i.e. no ECU etc.

If this is still a current problem, do you have any insight to the root cause? Mine was first gen mfg'd in mid 2012 and my idle is rock solid after 13k miles and some track days...
