OEM lug nuts with aftermarket wheels?
 

I recently picked up a set of BBS wheels for my BRZ, I put them on and fitment is good, I'm curious if I run the oem lug nuts with these rims or if I need a more "specific" conical lug nut to use? IIRC 90%+ of lug nuts are conical design and this should be fine. Just wanted to ask anyone who could help me out!

Usually, wheels have type specific lug nuts. If you bought from a reputable wheel supplier they should have included the new hardware IF it is required. Some aftermarket wheels no doubt use the same spec lug as the OEM, just on the odds.

The conical shape is critical to safety, it need to match the conical recesses in each bolthole for safety. If the face of the nut doesn't match the face of the hole in the wheel then point loading can damage the wheel or have it work loose.

To check you could remove one nut, coat it with powder and carefully screw it back on until the faces just touch, then remove and see if there is a ring of contact or an area. If the slopes don't match you will see a ring of contact revealed in the powder, not good. If there is an area of contact then the slope of the two surfaces is the same and you're good to go.

Carefully clean off any powder you choose to use as lubricating a lug nut is a no no, it'll work loose for sure.

The OEM nuts are conical.
