Seized brake rotor removal tool

While replacing my wheel studs I discovered my rotors were stuck and I didn't have the correct size bolts on hand to remove them. I found the spare tire hold down bolt is the correct size and makes the perfect tool for the job!

nice "life hack" or whatever the kids call it these days. I like when odd things work out like this.

Did you have the emergency brake on by chance?

Reaper 06-28-2014 05:01 PM

I was thinking the same thing, ha.

No, there was just rust built up at the rotor to hub seating surface.

Nice find!
When I did the brembo brake conversion, I had to take my bike to the parts store to get a couple of M8 x 1.25 bolts.. if only I had known about this back then.

Not sure if coincidence, or the engineers designed the spare tire tie-down bolt specifically with this in mind.

Did you try hitting the flat part of the rotor hat with a big hammer first?

Nice find, I may end up using this one day!

No, I tried a few light blows with a rubber mallet on the backside rotor face with no results. I then tried the tire bolt and both rotors pressed off easily with just a few turns of the handle.

Nice find! I keep a couple of metric bolts in the "tune-up" drawer just for that reason, but for those who don't, this is a good tip. Thanks for posting it up.

I tried this earlier today for the rear rotors, it worked but it fucked up the threads real nice. I suppose on Monday I'll be ordering a new one...

It's my fault and I'm by no means blaming the OP. I highly recommend grabbing a bolt from the front undertray instead, it's far stronger

I think it's designed this way lol. Did you know the screw driver in the trunk alone is all you need to take apart all interior? LoL

I noticed this when I was doing sound deadening and install OEM+ for my car.
