Is this DoAble?

Let's say I choose the Jackson SC install....

Would it be possible to:
not use the SC except on track days?
BY:
  • removing the extra-long serpentine belt replacing stock belt
  • by-passing the intercooler and routing air like stock
  • using the stock ECU tune
then on track day change intake routing back, put on long belt & replace ECU tune.

Why would you?

poptopclk 06-15-2014 03:57 PM

Don't need it for daily driving... Wear & Tear.. engine life..cooler engine... ect..

In the software tuning section it looks like you can switch ROMS with the cruise control switch.

The serpentine belt takes a couple of minutes at most

The intake looks bothersome how about a Y coupling w a butterfly valve to choose NA or FI ?

Your engine will not be hotter while daily driving with the SC installed. It will only get hotter if you take advantage of the SC's boost.

Having oil sit in the SC and the oil lines/pump is not a good idea. The system is meant to be in circulation during heat cycles.

I wouldn't do it.

If you're not on it, it's basically not being used. Stay off the gas and then there is no need to remove anything

SalM 06-15-2014 04:12 PM

Stupidest thing I've ever heard . Just go the FI route or not. if you want a little more power at the track do full bolt ons and an E85 tune and make great power for daily driving and the track.

huh?

If it's connected by the serpentine belt it is being used, all the intake air is going thru it at all RPM's and it's hard not to drive the car without using some rpm's so ...

A supercharger is not always creating boost. You can even give it a fair amount of gas before boost is created. Air going through it yes, but if you drive it on a normal street and keep your foot out of the gas, the car is pretty much going to drive like it did stock. You are worried about "Wear & Tear.. engine life..cooler engine... ect.." and none of that is going to be effected by a supercharger that isn't creating boost.

gramicci101 06-15-2014 04:46 PM

Maybe a turbo kit would work better for you? Or an electric supercharger?

dabocx 06-15-2014 04:55 PM

Just get a upgraded rad and oil cooler if your worried about heat. Just keep it on

woode 06-15-2014 04:56 PM

OP To be honest, I think you should do a lot more research on the topic..

Akari 06-16-2014 03:56 AM

Possible? -Yes. Is it really saving you anything? -No.

You're just making more components to fail, more human error to be made and you'll be essentially testing out your supercharger for the first time on the track every time.

Just leave it on like a normal person, the drawbacks are very, very minimal.

Why would you need the extra power only on the track? Are you doing time trials or just trying to win an HPDE cup? The JRSC runs a relatively low amount of horsepower and an even lower amount of torque that I don't see causing any kind of wear & tear or reduction in engine life for daily driving.

FR-S Matt 06-16-2014 11:49 AM

Pretty sure you can daily drive a supercharger without flooring it. If you're keeping the RPM's under 3.5k and driving normally, you shouldn't be putting strain on it. The power is there if you need it, but just like any car whether N/A or FI.... if you floor it everywhere you go, you are wearing down the engine quicker.
