OEM Steering Wheel Reinstall...Light Still On?
I've never been savvy on all the electrical jazz, but I'm wondering if the airbag light will just go way once I drive the car for a bit. I'm positive I reinstalled it correctly:
Orange to orange, black to black, cruise control, airbag. Only 4 'plug-ins'. It's going to be garaged for the rest of the month but any responses are appreciated. -D. |
...anyone? I'm sick of feeling like I'll be decapitated...
|
Duuuuuuuude I know one of you 98 viewers thus far has had to put your OEM stuff back on...
|
No experience taking this wheel out but after disconnecting the steering wheel/airbag on my 05 sti a bunch of times the light always shut off after a few seconds of it being on. Did you try to d/c the battery?
|
I've taken my wheel out twice so far, both times to get access to the turn signal stalk (foglights and auto headlights) and had my airbag out 4-5 times (steering wheel badge and the turn signal stalk) and each time I have had no issue with the airbag light.
Just two days ago I had it out and after plugging back the connections, started up my car and drove down the street before pushing the bag back in (didn't want to piss off neighbors by blowing the horn at midnight) and the light was off. Not sure where your issue lies. I know the above wasn't very useful but I wanted to give you a little feedback from my experience |

Yeah I just replaced my aftermarket wheel with the OEM one. Same things had to be done as far as what's removed, so this info is useful. I made sure the clockspring wasn't turned as well... |

Well, the battery was disconnected while I did the install. Are you suggesting that I disconnect it again and see? I'll have to give that a shot... |

Well all I've done is disconnected the battery and reconnected it again. No luck. I'll most likely end up taking it off and putting it on again...FML. |
I've removed my steering wheel and airbag twice (steering wheel swap on the first and light switch stalk swap on the second), both times I left the battery connected. I didn't get the airbag light after :iono: I just made sure not to switch the key to position 1 or 2 with the airbag disconnected.
I didn't disconnect the battery because I could just clear the airbag light with techstream if it did come on. |
Is it only the airbag light or the Tract control and VSC light are also on? If all those lights are on the clock spring may have been damaged and needs to be replaced. A single airbag light may be something different, see if you can get a OBDII code reader to find out what code it is.
|
I'm gonna have to dig out my scan tool. It's the airbag light only and at this point I might just reinstall my aftermarket wheel haha.
|
I've switched out the OEM wheel for another OEM wheel about 5 times (alcantara and misalignment). I always unplugged the battery beforehand. I have not had the airbag light come on.
I would suggest using the techstream or other Subaru specific tool to get/clear the code. You regular obd II scanner prob won't cut it unfortunately. |
did you check all your fuses? thats always a good place to check whenever you have an odd electrical issue.
