WHY!? Their lead time is ridiculous, and I get it. But why aren't there any others out there?

Just a guess, but probably because a catted UEL generates less power overall? Which probably means less interest from buyers. Plus I'd imagine most people with catted headers don't get a tune to preserve the warranty/emissions as much as possible. I went with a catless UEL and tune specifically because I wanted to make more use able power.

The high flow spun metallic cats are not very restrictive IMO. They will still make good numbers. I have a catted UEL here, has never been tested or posted about, weren't sure if we wanted to pursue them. The cat required for it is more expensive than the one used in the EL header, the runner layout is also quite a bit different than our non catted UEL. There's also no absolute guarantee that you won't eventually throw a CEL on stock tune nor pass emissions in places like California. Basically we weren't sure if the price increase could be justified with the only guarantee being maybe passing a visual inspection and reducing noise/rasp.

You would never pass smog in CA as replacing any cat with anything but OEM would cause you to fail.

We need MORE (EL) catted options if anything. :)

I don't too many people are worried about emissions and most would rather have one cat in the front pipe

Some places require the same amount of cats as factory, here they do a visual inspection to make sure you have whatever was put in place by the factory.

Sorry I guess I am just venting because I am getting a SC and tune in Aug and can't find a catted UEL before sept-oct if I order it today.. Lead times are excessive.

kiichiro 06-12-2014 10:49 AM

My catted header sits on a shelf, cat is toast, literally it just a ball that will pass out thru the tail pipe one of these days

Avoid catted header.

Bingo

Fitting the OEM cat to this header would cost more but last for the lifetime of the vehicle and never throw a code. Expensive, yes. But if this will be a solution than it could be worth it in the long run.

If this could be made so the OEM cat could be welded on then I would go for it.

The OEM cat is a big restriction though, WAY worse than a good high flow cat.
