Billet Key Housing

I have seen a lot of tuners asking for ideas for things to build. I also see people complain the keys look cheap.

Maybe somebody should make a CNC'd-out billet aluminum key housing. You would just pry your plastic key apart and install it in the aluminum.

It might look cool. There would need to be some testing done to make sure it does not affect the keyless entry signal.

Anodize is World Rally Blue and carve back a Subaru-logo for extra bling!

I'd like a new case for my future BRZ-L proximity key

I think we could make a better looking key than that.:) When do you think you could buy unprogrammed keys? Maybe I'll try to get one and sketch one out.

Sticking the keyless entry remote inside a block of metal probably isn't going to work to well.

You might be right, but if there is a way to ground it to the case it might work. I did mention that might be an issue in my original post, but I'm not antenna expert so if you are please tell me.

I am pretty sure I have seen phones with metal battery covers that seem to get reception so it seems like either it does not matter or it needs to be grounded.

It might work but a good chance it will decrease range, or not work at all. Antennas can be very picky they have to be designed to work with the frequency. Add the fact that you'll become part of the antenna as you hold it in your hand.

Seen that one and tried it. It works but I have no idea why.

Your head just happens to work well as a passive re-radiator for the signals frequency.

I was thinking of a different key fob too. Great idea and good luck, keep us updated!
