Remove seat rail bolts
 

I would like to remove the bolts holding down the seat rails. They appear to be E-TORX bolts. Does anyone know the size?

An 8mm socket/wrench seems to fit pretty well, so I tried that first. The bolts clearly have thread locker or something on them. I used a standard size 8mm wrench, and even used the two-wrench leverage trick, and was unable to get enough leverage to break the seal.

Could someone who has removed these tell me how they did it? I ordered a breaker bar, but not sure if that is enough and if I can get away with an 8mm socket without stripping the E-TORX.

I am trying to mount a custom fire extinguisher brace to the front bolts of the passenger seat so I can take my car on the track.

8mm socket with extension and large ratchet.

E-10 Torx Socket with a breaker bar.

E-10, don't need the breaker bar, its doable by hand, I did.

^ not spin-able by hand, but just a standard socket wrench ;)

You'll strip the bolts this way. Use an E10 torx socket - you may need a breaker bar if you don't have enough leverage.

don't use anything other than an e10 torx socket. I made that mistake and rounded off the bolt head behind the seat and now its a huge headache to get out. I kind of screwed myself, lol, but you live and learn I suppose. If anyone knows of a way to get this bolt out, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Its just so cramped and theres no room because of the rails.

probably just go to the dealer and order a new on and CAREFULLY grind off the stripped one

Before attempting to get it off, I went to ace hardware and matched the bolt so that I could fasten the seat down once I got it off, but I do intend to order a new one eventually.
what do I do once I grind the bolt head off? the dremel head is too big to get inbetween the rails. but I tried easy-out and it failed. I also tried hammering on a socket to see if I could gain some leverage and muscle it out, but that hasn't worked. so im kind of stuck

Use a dremel and a cutting wheel to cut a slot into the bolt, then use a flathead on a socket and get it out carefully

I rounded off one of mine too be using a regular socket before getting an e10
I just hammered the socket onto the bolt and it reformed enough to be removed.

You NEED a quality E10 Torq socket as well as "heat" aka micro torch. I dealt with this in a difficult way myself so just sharing. If you pre heat bolts abit then bang on solid a E10 Torq socket with a long bar and use gentle power should be no issue. Easiest way if you strip one to remove is a extraction socket.
