Clicking From Wheel Area
 

So today was a normal Sunday. On my way to church as I arrived in the empty parking lot, I did a quick slide which is nothing different from what I do any other day (see empty lot, make car slide, repeat). Only this time, about an hour or so after, when I got back in and started driving I noticed the clicking/popping.

My observations are as follows:
The clicking occurs at the same rate the wheels are rotating. When I speed up it speeds up and vice versa. Regardless of speed, even slow creeps, it pops.

Also I have assured myself it is coming from outside the vehicle, using my patent pending echolocation test. This test consists of driving in an open area and listening and then driving next to fences and listening to the change in sound level. I doubt science supports me, but I hear it clear as day near the fences and not so much I'm open space.

I did a visual inspection and found nothing. I am fairly confident it is coming from the rear wheel area or somewhere in between.

I'd rather not take it in to the dealership but if I can't figure it out then I'll have to.

The only thing in the wheel area that is aftermarket is RallyArmor Mudflaps and plastidip.

Any help is beneficial.

Most likely axles. Jack up the car and spin the wheel, see if it's the front or rear to isolate if it's axles.

This happens to me when rocks get stuck in my tire tread. Happens in my mazda too.

Did you try kicking it?

What brake pads do you have?

My best guesses based on your description would be

1. Rocks (or a nail/screw/bolt) stuck in the tire tread, with or without a puncture.

2. Loose lug nuts. Probably not likely unless your wheels were recently removed, though higher power cars have been known to stretch and loosen lugs due to power/wheelspin

3. Axles wearing out. More likely if you're lowered, but you didn't mention anything about that.

This happened to me on the stock tires... I found out after a few days that it was just a small stone stuck in the tread. Hope this helps

Had this issue on mine. Took it to the dealer, turned out to be undertorqued axle nuts. They tightened everything up to spec, issue's gone.

Dealer saw it and said it was an exhaust leak, but my guy is gonna take it overnight a week or so from now to check if the leak is more prevalent in the morning on a cold start, as he's not entirely ruling out the axle because I brought it to him yesterday and he couldn't find where the leak is coming from due to the hot piping possibly expanding to cover it after the car is warmed up.
