P&L Header only installed. LOVE IT

So after some research, I narrowed my choices to P&L, JDL, and SpeedFactory.

EL Catted Header choices:
JDL - 4-6wks lead time =(
Speedfactory - 10wks lead time =(
P&L - on the shelf ready to ship =)

Received the P&L header this week, it's ceramic coated on the outside AND INSIDE the piping. Schedule 10 piping (thick durable stuff), and v-band connection at the top of the "U" w/ easy access from the engine bay.

Installation ran into a FEW snags... stock bolts on header-> overpipe would not come off. Even after penetrating oil and pb blaster. This car is a 2014 delivered to dealer in Feb '14 w/ ~800 miles on it. The nut ended up getting stuck/seized to the bolt w/ about 1/8" of the bolt still sticking out the end. The result was TWO bolts that were TWISTED OFF due to me using a breaker bar on it. I basically severed the stock bolts by twisting it in half.

Also, lesson learned... Tighten Header to car, then Vband, then overpipe bolts.

Sound is stock on idle and cruising, but gives a nice note when WOT. =)

Only other powertrain mod: panel filter intake.

J&L or P&L.... I'm thinking P&L right?

My P&L has been doing great so far with OFT tune.

Oops, corrected. Yes, P&L. I have the Delicious ECUtek stage 2 tune and it's great.

Any videos?

aznatama 06-01-2014 01:45 AM

I'll try to get one tomorrow. But this setup achieves my objective of a quiet power upgrade quite nicely. I think I may need to re tq the header to over pipe bolts though... forgot if I re tightened them after I put the v clamp on.

Tried getting a video, but my phone mic isn't really picking up the sounds. That being said, it has met my goal of keeping it nice and quiet yet providing a nice increase in power. Butt-Dyno tells me the tq dip is no longer much of an issue. =)

Just out of curiosity, why did you get an el header and not uel?

Asking because I'm looking to get a header in the near future.

Their ceramic coating is outside only, costs more, thinner piping... I'm sure JDL is a quality product, but I had some time constraints and wanted a fully coated header.

please find a way to post a vid. how much louder is the car?

aznatama 06-02-2014 11:09 AM

Like I said, the Mic won't pick up the sound. It's not much louder at all inside the car. You can tell when the car is floored, but that's about it. Very minimal sound increase.

It's virtually stock sounding at idle and while cruising at 65.

Now, if only someone made a ti over pipe and front pipe that mates to the stock cat back...

i'd like to know it does for power with a stock exhaust... i dont want to make my car all nasty and raspy so i'm afraid to change anything but i want to get rid of the stupid tq dip.

aznatama 06-02-2014 11:36 AM

My butt dyno tells me there's a change in performance. But the only way to tell for sure is to compare it with a sock car. What I have is panel filter, header, and delicious ecutek tune stage 2.

I'll need to find a dyno to get a graph made....
