FRS AVO Automatic Trans Dyno

Posting to sharing my tuning results. @moto-mike set me up with a great tune and the car is sure to be a super smooth daily driver.

Automatic transmission with ~10 psi peak boost, 247HP / 218ft-lbs torque.

Entirety of modifications: @AVOturboworld kit w/6psi wastegate spring.
NXS manual boost controller.
Stock overpipe(not a mod, I know).
Tsudo highflow cat front pipe.
Flowmaster cat back (discounted from ebay).
Jegs 2.5 resonator (to take the rasp out of the flowmaster).

What was changed between run 002 and run 010? Nice low RPM torque pick up.

Thanks. Torque is goooood.

002 was the first run of the half finished e-tune from Mike that I drove in with. I couldn't always get new logs to Mike as fast as I wanted because of weather, traffic, work etc. and decided to drive to Moto-east and finish on the dyno.

010 is what I drove out with. Probably could have gotten there, or close, with e-tuning but I needed instant gratification.... so I can change more things.... and do it all over again.

Thanks for stopping by! Nice to finally drive a turbo AT after tuning a few! These automatics on the FT86 totally blew me away with how they hold the power without slip.

BTW as I'm sure it will get asked, the jaggy lines are simply a result of doing long AT pulls (3rd is too short, 4th is a bit long) with a lousy fan and heat soak. On the street with proper airflow the power will stay smoother. It was hitting 1.71 bar on spool and dropping off to 1.45 by redline. So about 10.5 dropping to 6 psi. Not bad for an AT on pump gas!

Looks good !

I was actually surprised how decent the autos are in these cars. Not enough to make me get an auto, but still pretty awesome. :)

OP - Any plans to upgrade the trans or get a trans cooler?

Not at the moment. There's a already an oil to water transmission fluid cooler/heat exchanger thing and I haven't seen water temps get much over 200 on the street. The weather is getting a lot warmer now so I'll keep an eye on water along with engine oil temps as we get into summer.

No plans for tracking it either.

I'm thinking a standalone EBC to flatten out the boost and a sorting out of my hodgepodge exhaust are next on the to-do list.

Thanks

I just noticed I averaged 36.1 mpg on the 125 mile return trip. That's mostly 75-80 highway with a slight detour through the middle of Manhattan. I hate my gps sometimes.

Go automatics!!!!

Somehow I hadn't seen that one. Very nice compilation and I've made my contribution. Thanks.

Now that @swift996 pointed out that thread I feel a little underpowered.

Others with the AVO kit are posting much higher number on pump gas like mrfish and even Paul.

What's up with that? Does the automatic really leach that much?

A lot of things can effect power. Temps/Air flow and I'm sure the autos rob more power on the dyno. Perhaps the over pipe is cutting off some power? I doubt that much. Your numbers aren't too far off what I've seen with that kit. I'd care more about driveability and the tune. You're not going to feel a few hp.

onzippy 05-29-2014 05:57 PM

I'm using the 6psi actuator and a MBC to get ~10 psi but Moto-mike said it was dropping to ~6 psi.
Is there a rule of thumb about spring pressure and and boost controllers? I mean, I've got an 8psi actuator from AVO also so is it better to install that and modulate the extra 2 psi with mbc to get the boost stable?

And the driveability is awesome. No complaints there.
