MT: 1st and 2nd stiff when cold
Hi,
I find it hard to get into 1st and 2nd when the car is totally cold (first start in the morning, around 14°C these days), after a minute and a few hundred meters it gets nice and smooth. This is the case either upshifting (neutral to 1st and 1st to 2nd) or downshifting (3rd to 2nd or 2nd to 1st). Te other gears seem fine. I feel this when setting of in the morning, engaging 1st gear isn't that smooth, and then shifting the 2nd is pretty sticky... then at first stop sign going back down 3rd->2nd->1st is pretty sticky too... then after a little time it all gets smooth. The car has 1000KM now |
So....is there a question in here? Or just a statement? A lot of people have changed their teams fluid out for improved results. I run Pentosin MTF2 myself, and others run Motul, or Amsoil, or Redline, among others.

I guess I forgot the question(s)... it was: is this normal? Will it stop when everything breaks in (a few thousand KMs or so)? Have others noticed this or is it just mine? People new cars and MTs can easily answer the last.... |

2. It should get better as it breaks in 3. Very common http://lmgtfy.com/?q=ft86+club+stiff...n+first+second |
I switched to Motul Gear 300. It is a bit better but still sticky when cold. I live with it as I know it is very common.

Completely normal, try changing to one of the fluids mentioned above. In the short term though, you could try my current solution:

Great, this all makes me happy, nothing wrong with mine, and in my case it's very acceptable... in fact, reading these threads gives me the impression that some are pretty worse off (but on the other hand it's not very cold these days, I'll see this winter if I end up having to skip 2nd alltogether like some in the thread)

I came from a MT 370Z and it was the same, I used to double clutch while the fluid is cold. I found this helped a lot, just my 2cents worth.
