Installing Resonator?
 

I've had my Tsudo catback exhaust 2.5" for awhile and kinda want to try tweaking it to make it sound different and drop the dBs a little bit. Anyone have any experience with Vibrant Resonators? Tsudo's layout is just a straight pipe from the catback to the muffler, no resonators.

I'm looking at the 1141 (2.5" "Ultra Quiet Resonator") and the "Bottle style resonators" 1790, 1791, etc. Don't really know what to expect from any of these. Would these significantly reduce dBs or would they only change the tone? How much should I expect to pay to have a shop weld it in?

from my experience the longer the resonator the more effective it has on lowering db's also the raspy is reduced too but u need at least 1-2 resonators to drop anywhere from 1-5 db's from my experience

So basically I shouldn't expect a radical change?

I was thinking of the HKS dual resonator front pipe for mine. Right now my setup is Borla UEL, 2.5 over pipe, 2.5 Berk front pipe with highflow cat. & Invidia N1. I little to much above 4,000 rpm's :-(

also if the exhaust comes with optional silencers that usually means the aftermarket mufflers arent quiet enough for sound dampening but its also usually off road oriented more or less. there are some exhausts that doesnt use detachable silencers those usually have a more street legal sound system under 95 db that or install resonators which adds a tad more weight.

if you have to use an extra resonator dont use magnaflow their resonators weigh about 10 lbs at least it was the biggest mistake I made wen i bought one for my ford probe years ago thing was heavier than my borla exhaust all together ><

Would something like this even fit on the exhaust with the heat shields?

Dimensions on the website say: 4 1/2" x 6 3/4" x 14" overall length

Reviews look pretty phenomenal and weight is 5 lbs so not too bad.

I wouldnt know I havent installed a cat back exhaust yet still running on stock im just saving up 1200-1300 bucks for the hks Ti-L exhaust

So I looked under the car and the Vibrant Ultra Quiet Resonator would not fit at all. Anyone have any experience with aftermarket glasspack (bottle style) resonators?
I am looking at the Vibrant 17930 which has a 5" diameter but is only 18" long vs. the MBRP R1016 which is 4" in diameter but 26" long. There are good reviews from Vibrant but would with a much shorter length would it not be as good?

Doing a volume calculation with V=(pi)*(r^2)*L of the two seems like the 5" diameter has more volume which should equate to more deadening.
If you include the 2.5" flow it's V= 353.4 (5x18") vs 326.7 (4x26")
If you minus the 2.5" flow the effect is amplified being V= 88.356 (5x18") vs 45.9 (4x26")

All in cu in.

From what I understand about the glasspack bottle resonators there are a lot of factors but volume is important since it's packed with fiberglass deadener. Am I on the right track with these calcs?

A true resonator isn't filled with anything. I had a vibrant resonator on my beetle when it had the 13B in it and it cleaned up the sound a lot and will reduce the volume a bit. On the FRS there is a noticible change between the non resonated Perrin and the resonated Perrin. You will notice a difference.

Went with the Vibrant one since it has a better name. I'll do some dB recording before and after to see the difference

why not have the shop switch out your mufflers for something like flow master quiet flow

I had that Vibrant 2.5" installed on my TRD catback. It REALLY cut the noise down to the point where its nice and quiet in the cabin, but its still audible when I step on it. Its also much quieter at startup/idle.

The actual exhaust note DID change a bit, its not as burbly before and more high strung. So keep that in mind, it might change how the exhaust actually sounds.

But I am happy with it. This is my daily driver exhaust, and I still have my stock midpipe with the nameless muffler delete for when I feel like it LOL

I wish I could run your setup but unfortunately Tsudo decided to offset the midpipe slightly to the left so it can't fit the Vibrant Ultra Quiet Resonator.. Hopefully the bottle style one will have a similar effect.
