shifter problem highrev.

So, last night, i decided to rev my car out in neutral which i actually had never done, and my whole shifter was shaking violently like i mean knocking left and right.
Just curious what could be causing this????
on my old audi it wouldnt even budge, something just seems broken under there :mad0259:

Were you bouncing off the rev limiter?

frsqc 04-23-2014 10:09 PM

steady rev between 5-6k

He's probably talking about a manual shifter. Ive never seen an auto shifter shake. *shrugs*

Your shifter is directly connected to the transmission which is directly bolted to the engine. When it's in neutral it has free play side to side compared to when it's in gear.

If it wasn't making funny noises I wouldn't worry about it, you're not the first to say the shifter vibrates too much. If it was making noise as it bounced around the gates I would take it to the dealer.

It must be the boxer engine boxing itself.

I feel this too in my automatic. When I start it up, sometimes I can feel the car jolt quickly left and right.

When I rev my car in N, i can feel a slight jolting of left and right as well.

manual.

and no it doesn't make any weird noise at all, but the intensity of the vibration is pretty bad. wish it just did it a little less :iono:

Might want to check the shift springs. I installed mtech shift springs on mine and that little shake i used to get when doing a burnout was reduced. It never shaked as much as you are describing but might be something you wanna look into. :burnrubber:

Video might do the trick communicating to us how severe it is.

Also, there was a tsb regarding shifter vibration (scion tsb 03-71-13). Might be worth asking your dealer about that.
