Brake pad and fluid install cost
 

What is a reasonable amount that a shop should charge to install my track brake pads and brake fluid? Some places here(south florida) are charging $150!!

Yeah $150 is pretty cheap. Figure $95/hr for about 2 hours + Material.

I asked the same question of myself about a month ago.

I now have all the tools to do it myself and am just waiting for my track pads/fluid to arrive before doing the swap.

Simple to do it yourself. Just do a gravity bleed of the fluid, don't even need a second person. And swapping pads is a cake walk, I do it when I arrive at the track and when I leave the track when I change from my street tires to track tires and back.

I know this is a dumb question but do I need to change the fluid all the time too or just the pads?

No need to change the fluid all the time. If you're on stock tires, you probably won't be generating enough grip and carrying enough speed into braking zones to over heat the stock brake fluid for lapping days, but I'd change the fluid to something that can withstand more heat just to be safe. After that, just change the fluid at regular maintenance intervals (sooner if you are tracking a lot) or if you ever boil the fluid. I wouldn't use track pads on the street, as you won't be able to generate enough heat on the rotors with daily driving to maintain the transfer layer of brake pad compound, and very soon after your track day you will be enjoying a symphony of squealing pigs.

Ok Great!! So it would be ok for
me to just put track pads on with stock fluid for my first track day? My car is brand new, I'll be lucky if I have 1000 miles on it by Saturday(track day) ;)

By "track pads" what do you mean?

Also if you only have 1k miles no need to flush the brake fluid.

As was stated if you have the OEM Prius tires you won't be taxing the brakes with them. I barely taxed my brakes with STi OEM Summers and 10+ years of track experience...

I put on some Hawk's ceramic pads and they squeak like hell.... shims or no shims. I greased them just like instructed and bedded them in. Still squeak. I'll be replacing these soon and my fluid/lines while I'm at it. Just not sure if I should try it myself or have a shop do it. Figure it's easier since I'm doing a fluid swap, but the whole bleeding process kinda leaves me wondering.
