You might try dabbing a bit of silicone on the key and inserting & extracting several times to losen up the tumblers.......;)
Also, try "jiggling" the steering wheel a bit while pulling out the key. humfrz Back in the day, we would just squirt some 3in1 oil in the ignition lock, heat up the key with a Zippo cigarette lighter and stick er in. |

Back in 1970 I bought a brand new MGB-GT (in BRG). Yep, I terrorized most all of the curvy back roads around Santa Cruz, CA. A feature on that car was that when you pulled the key out and turned the steering wheel a bit, the steering column would lock (an anti-theft feature). Well, one day, in the mail, I received a re-call notice. I was to carefully bring my MG back to the dealership to have the steering column lock replaced. What had happened on several cars, was that the steering column would lock when the wheel was turned ..... with the key in the ignition ..... WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD ..... :eyebulge: Now THAT was a "careful" drive to the dealership the next day .... http://www.runemasterstudios.com/gra...images/eek.gif Yes, it's past time for my meds and nap .... :bonk: humfrz |

Could have something to do with the steering wheel lock. I had that problem on my old 911 and had to turn the steering wheel a little to get it to release my key.

BRZ, 10 series, monogram or RS1.0
I'll never buy a new car that uses keys in the ignition again. Probably doesn't help, sorry. |

However if you drop your keys when they hit the ground it can cause small burrs on the key that then makes it stick in lock, use a fine sandpaper or wire brush to remove any burrs (don't grind off and make it all smooth though :D) |

I appreciate the positive reinforcements for the suggestions in post #2........http://www.runemasterstudios.com/gra...ages/whaat.gif

Also if you have a lot of keys on your same key chain all the weight could affect your key, people don't seem to realized that when you have 3 lbs of weight on your key chain it does where out your key a lot faster and could break in your ignition.
And also I agree with ilpad it could be something with your wheel lock, so if the lube doesn't work, I would have it checked out before you sleep in your car because you can't get the key out. good luck. |
