DIY Idea

So as many of us have probably noticed, there is some valuable semi-covert storage space behind the passenger-side dash cover. Thought this might be useful for storing away some small items that a would-be thief might not think to check first. We all know storing away lock-nut keys in the glove box almost negates their purpose. Anyone with the know how think this compartment could be easily set up to be opened with a hinge/strong-magnet or otherwise lock to hold it in place? Would keep the stock appearance and provide a slightly better chance of thwarting wood be thieves of recovering valuables such as lock-nut keys or alarm override switches? Also, wouldn't need to pop it off for quick access.

Thoughts? Too obvious?

I think there's an airbag back there.

It looks as if there is one, but it's just an open cavity with some support braces. I think the airbag rips through the dash. It's easy to pop off with your fingers if you want to take a look.

LoL sorry, my post wasn't clear at all.

It looks like there should be an airbag behind the passenger dash plate, but I didn't see one. The passenger plate is easy to remove with your hands, it just pops off.

The way it is from the factory should be fine for something like a wheel lock key. How often will you need it?

You could remove the pins and glue high strengh magnets ?

or just put a little cubby to shove stuff in and leave the cover the way it is since its "easy to pop off with your fingers" like you said.

you could put your weed in there.

Lol literally the first thing I said when I looked behind the dash plate.

I may or may not have used that area for hiding things ;).

I agree that that is a lot of wasted space. I believe there is no airbag behind it either. It would definitely be a cool place to add something.

Just be careful, in some states even if it is empty, just having an accessible hidden compartment in the car is a crime because you "could" use it for drug smuggling.
