FI kit that does not throw CEL's and can pass readiness check

Just as the title states. What turbo or SC kit will pass readiness check and does not throw CEL's. Emissions equipment must be intact and functional to pass readiness check, no cel delete accepted.

Thanks in advance

i think any of the superchargers would pass. they would have to be tuned but none of them should throw CELs if tuned well. none of the turbos would pass if having both cats is a requirement.

I would say a front mount turbo kit is good, I'm not sure about SC kits.

All you would need is a high flow catted UEL or EL header over pipe and a high flow cat front pipe from nameless or whoever, then catback.

Most rear-mounted turbo kits CAN retain the factory emissions system.

super charger, or a kit that has a cat in header and allows you to retain factory cat back I suppose.

Do you actually need a cat to pass the readiness check with O2 sensors? My understanding is that the sensors have to be there, but they will report a valid ready state even if the value should be throwing a CEL?

If I'm right, you can disable the CEL(s) in the tune, and keep the sensors and it should pass the readiness check without issue as long as the sensors aren't old/defective.

Not sure if disabling a cel would work for readiness check. Unless you could somehow use a tune to force readiness which I'm not sure if it's even possible or if a tuner/vendor would be willing to break epa regulations in a emissions enforced county just to sell their kit.

Find a shop in your state and discuss with them, every state is different. No CEL's isn't hard to do.

Aren't there a few SC kits with CARB approval.

Readiness and CEL's are 2 different things. Some softwares can force readiness I haven't looked yet to see if ecutek will. Also forcing readiness doesn't always mean you cheat the tests, it can mean you short cut the sometimes long procedures required to achieve readiness. I know back in my service days I would often drive a car around all day trying to hit all the requirements.

In my county they only check the obd2 to make sure that your emissions control equipment are working and intact. Also there must be no cel.

The Innovate kits will pass this. I'm sure the JR, KW(possibly?) and Vortech kits would too.

Previously on subarus Access tuner race can force readiness, from what i've read it was introduced when cobb hired one of the guys who did a lot of the open source work, so i'm assuming it was available on that too.

If those platforms have it it can be implemented elsewhere.

From what I've gathered in the last year or so issues can arise in certain states (mass) from just disabling a readiness monitor. Setting a monitor as not supported may get rid of a cel and work in many states, but in some it will fail.

wparsons 04-15-2014 05:50 PM

Does disabling the CEL actually affect readiness though? A ready state just means the sensor is functioning and has met driving conditions for the ECU to trust the readings from it.

Disabling the CEL in the ROM shouldn't change that at all, it should just stop the ECU from interpreting the reading and storing a CEL.

IE: No cat, secondary O2 sensor reading would be indicating a bad cat. The sensor is still ready and working. If the CEL is disabled the sensor is still ready and working, it's just not tripping a code.
