Loud Buzzing Noise - Car Not Running

I went out to my garage tonight and heard a loud buzzing noise coming from my BRZ. Investigated it a bit and found that it was coming from the rear, possibly more toward the passenger side. My only thought was that possibly the fuel pump was running or a relay back there was chattering.

The car hasn't been started in over 5 hours, so I'm a bit concerned why this is happening and am a bit worried about a possible fire hazard. It stopped shortly after I took this video. Phone cam doesn't pick the noise up well away from the car, but you can hear it clear as day. Picked up great from under.

That's normal, its your EVAP system doing its test.

Good to hear.

I've never heard this on any other car before. Can anyone tell me a bit more about it?

EVAP is the system that checks and monitors the fuel vapors in your fuel tank. IT captures the fumes into a charcoal canister which is later send to your engine to be used as fuel. To test the fuel system to make sure there is No leaks the system applies a vacuum pump to the tank while making it air tight. The noise you hear is the pump applying very small amount of vacuum to the tank to check for leaks.

Every car has this, just different versions. New systems have a dedicated vacuum pump, and that's what you are hearing.

if you ever had a newer car and left the gas gap loose your check engine light turn on, well its because that test failed.

It's in your owner's manual. Read it.
