Long Start
Anyone else having an issue with a long start after a period of driving?
Example:
I'm not talking an obnoxious amount of cranking, but easily double when the car is cold. Also I should note it has never failed to fire up. I just think it's weird because typically a car would FTF when it's cold, not warm. Any thoughts? |
Same thing happens to me, but if I enter the car and give it 5 to 10 seconds it starts up normally.
I hope that helps. |
Add my BRZ has having this issue. It's quite noticeable with the push start since I'm used to pushing, waiting for 2 cranks, then setting off. These longer cranks are like 4-6 cranks before the engine will cough to life.
It sounds kinda like what my older coworkers would describe as vapor lock on a carbureted car. |
The only thing i can think of is if the ECU is determining whether or not to start in closed or open loop. Not sure if that's even possible, just a thought.

I usually start when I hear fuel pump finish priming, haven't had any problems :iono:

This is common on motorcycles too. All of my bikes have done this to an extent. I chalk it up to heat soak, the engine is just harder to start when all the engine components are hot.

I've actually had trouble recently with mine not even attempting to start. The push button will turn the car on, but it won't start it. It's happened about 5 times in the last month and a half. When it happens I've had to cycle through all the modes as many as 6-7 times and then it'll crank. I contacted the dealer and they weren't any help. I thought the key might have a weak battery, but that wasn't it, and the clutch is all the way in when I start it. I did have the High Pressure Fuel Pump replaced recently. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? I did a search, but didn't see anything.

On mine, and other cars I've owned that did this, if I armed the car and ignition, but held off on pushing the clutch in (and engaging the starter) until after I hear the fuel pump finish priming, and after the tach had finished with it's sweep.
This always helped with long cranks when really hot. |
Mine did this today for the first time (999 miles). It cranked over for a good 10 seconds before firing up. I tried turning it off and back on when I got home and it wouldn't start. I'll try again in the morning.
Also, I can't find a PDF on that TSB. Is that a TSB or an SSB? |
I experienced the same issue about a month ago. Clutch in, pressed the start button, and took it about 7 cranks to start the engine up.
I've had previous vehicles that featured a start button and this is a first for me. Is there a TSB for this issue? |
