Engine Coolant system

At cruising speeds my coolant temps will stay at 190-192.

Once I hit traffic it will creep up to 230ish within a minute or two and then it will suddenly drop down to 190 again when the fans come on. Then it will creep back up to 230 etc...

I have the robispec giant radiator. Does this sound like normal operation?

That's not normal. Could be low on water, or leaking at the drain plug. Inspect the radiator cap to ensure its clean. I used some GM coolant tablets that CBR recommended I try for any small leaks, and it clogged up the radiator cap. Fluid could flow out of the system, but not back in. I had to clean it out with distilled water and replaced coolant fluid.
