Brake cooling

Have been trying to figure out a brake cooling solution lately. Especially since it appears that most fi setups (my kw kit included) likely interfere with duct plumbing.

There are several oem and aftermarket implementations of scoops mounted to the control arm or dust shield, including on the gt3. On this car with the caliper in front it may be a bit of an issue.

Has anybody tried any sort of scoop implementation? Obviously it wouldn't be as effective as ducting, but the ddability and install simplicity tradeoffs may be very worth the compromises in performance.

i also stumbled across this.

Don't know if this will help, but here's an example of one mounted to the caliper bracket. It's part of Essex Parts' endurance kit: http://www.essexparts.com/shop/compl...86-bundle.html

The kit? It's a racing brake kit that runs $2599, and is sold by vendors on the forum. There is no better braking available for the twins (see: Essex Parts link above). MHO

The Essex kits are by all accounts fantastic, but those plates are intended for duct hose. As I stated for people with fi routing ducting becomes a potential issue/complication.

The links I provided and the intent for this thread is more oriented at hose alternatives. Less performance, less complication, potentially more ddable.

The guy making them replied to my fb message earlier asking for me to email.

Been busy haven't gotten around to it.

Hi, I'm the guy with the fans. I'm really close to making these available for sale. Testing is going well but I want to be sure everything's figured out before I have to warranty a simple mistake. They'll be $495 for the setup. That's around the price of one NASCAR style brushless fan. If you use up pads and rotors the ROI will be quick. Thanks!

Thanks for the clarification - I misread the third paragraph in your original post. With all the possibilities you've identified, I'm sure you'll come up with something interesting and functional. Best of luck with it.

I've got a quick question relating to brake cooling kits in general.

Do the kits keep debris or water from entering through? Does it matter? I would guess water doesn't matter, but debris I would think would need some sort of filter...or something.

From looking through a few of these, doesn't seem like they have any sort of filters.

Thanks.

Filter = screen. That is, a screen that you provide and install at the duct system's entry in your bumper cover (or wherever the ducted air is entering your system).

Make sure it's a screen made of wire with a diameter thick enough that it won't deform in the course of your normal use. For example, if you'll spend time on a track at high speeds, you'll need screen that is stiff enough to withstand the impact from decent-sized chunks of rubber or the occasional stone coming off of the cars in front of you. Err on the side of stiffer is better.

Ended up going with an ap sprint kit shortly after making this thread. So far its handled 20 minute sessions at nhms and thompson with 0 issues running cl rc5+ pads. Car does have an sc, others on the same setup seem to be in the 260ish whp range.

I added this last week on a whim after having read that others (gtr) had mostly positive results especially relative to the cost and effort. For about $16 (bed bath and beyond is the only local place with nice silicon flippers) and some zip ties its well worth giving it a shot.

Congratulations - that kit should do an outstanding job for you. Loudon is fairly intense on brakes and will be a decent test during the hot months. The Glen would be a greater test due to the higher speeds.

Going forward, some brake temperature paint might be a good idea. Just a thought.

What's the theory behind that?
