How to keep DRL running even when the handbrake is on??
 

Hi everyone,

I just got the monogram frs recently, and I really enjoy the car.

I like the LED DRL very much, but I could not see it myself since everytime I pull the handbrake on then the DRL turns off.

Is there any way to keep the DRL running even when I have the handbrake on?

There has to be a sensor in the ebrake. If it is a multi duty sensor you just need to stop the signal going to the DRL's.

So I will try to revome all the leather covers on the brake and figure out which pin on the multi duty senor links to the DRL right?

There may only be a couple wires coming off the ebrake sensor and the spit occurs somewhere else in the harness. I haven't pulled all that apart yet so I'm not sure how it is wired.

Ehh, i wouldnt touch any of that yet unless you know what you are doing lol.

Is this just so YOU can see it when you want to get out and look at it? Or are you frequently using the handbrake while driving and don't like the lights going on and off?

I mean, just park the car on flat ground and leave it out of gear if you want to look at it. Or am I missing something here...?

I kind of understand the OP. I was the same way with my BRZ. At the same time, like you said though. If you want to see the DRL, just park on a level surface, leave the car in neutral, and there you go :bonk:

IMO, that's a big waste of effort just so you can get out and see the DRL a couple times.

What I want is to have the DRLs on when I have the lights on. That is something I would be very interested in. I have a BRZ. I hate that they go off when the lights are turned on.

Yes, the thread is particularly about getting the "boomerang" LED lights around the headlights to come on with the DRLs, but you can play with different combinations and orientations of diodes to get the lighting setup that you want. :thumbup:

I want to led to be on when I am parked +engine running with the handbrake on.
I put two golf clubs under the tires to stopp the car from rolling in my parking stall so I could see the LED myself, PITA!

So you risked ruining your clubs just so you could see the LEDs? :bonk:

How often are you really getting out to look at your car while running and on a hill? Why not just get a friend to sit in the car while you go stare at it? Or take a picture for the future? I'm just really missing the point here.

Like someone else said; just use the DIY's to make the LED strips stay on when your lights are on, then you can turn them on and leave the brake on whenever you want.

Like you I don't understand the handbrake thing. To each their own. I like using the brake to blink the lights.
Anyone notice if you start out in 1st gear and lug the engine by accident the LEDs blink in and off. I find that interesting. BRZ only?

I think I've seen it mentioned that the DRL LEDs are pretty picky about voltage. When the alternator output drops (like when you lug the engine in first), the voltage also drops below ~14VDC and the lights go out.

The "boomerang" LEDs have a proper LED driver, so they don't get affected like that.
