Re-fueling Timing and Amount

Maybe this is being over cautious, but when do people normally refill at

1. half tank
2. quarter tank

Also, does it do any harm to pump extra when the pump kicks off telling you the tank is fullÉ

:search: :sigh:

I usually fill my tank when I'm below a quarter.

Here's a thread about "topping off".

Check that thread out for topping off, it has some good info.

I refuel everytime I get to half a tank. Except for my first tank, I waited till that one got to "E"

After the little light comes on.

Why, oh why would anyone fill up a half full tank? Unless you're going into barren wilderness with no gas stations, and in that case you may be in the wrong car.

In urban areas with plenty of gas stations I refuel when I'm almost empty, usually 30-60 km after the light comes on.

A quarter tank (as shown on the gage) will allow me to make a round trip to all of my farther common destinations. So I usually fill up when I get a bit under a quarter tank to insure that I won't have to stop for a refill if I'm pressed for time.

Got it, to clear out the crappy fuel from the dealer. I'm going with Chevron 94, what are you fueling with?

This is bad for the fuel pump...

BobRickel 03-15-2014 11:14 AM

I fill it till it shuts off and it always reads full. There is a warning sticker on my FRS gas door that says to never try to put additional gas in after it kicks off the first time.

Captain Insano 03-15-2014 11:25 AM

Whenever I get to half a tank or below I fill up on 93 octane when I have a chance. Not all gas stations around here have 93. So I'm paranoid I will be trapped somewhere when I'm low and only be able to run 91 octane.

Not saying it's right, that's just how I do it.

I have never seen or even heard of a fuel pump failing because of running the tank low. The only downside I know of is that you can pick up sediment into the fuel filter, but again, I have never heard of an actual issue with this.

I'm actually using shitty shell v-power 93. Maybe I should start using chevron 94 lol. I'll have to find it though. I see shell gas stations pretty frequently, more so than chevron. Unless I'm just not noticing the chevrons.

Opinions vary...We'll just agree to disagree.
