jack stands oil change.
I was wondering if jacking up the car only up fronts and hold the car with 2 jack stands would prevent all the oil form coming out since it would be incline?
Sorry if some one posted this. but I could not find it somehow. :thanks::thanks: |

has anyone tried it?

I've done it. Doesn't worry me to have a little extra left. You could just jack up the rear to level it while draining.
|
That's usually how I do it.

I have this same question and I don't want to make a new thread. I guess it's a given that there will be more leftover oil with just the front up than if you were to have the car leveled. So does anyone know roughly how much more extra oil will be left compared to draining while leveled?
Thanks! |

officially, the oil pan holds something around 5.7qt's, this says somewhere near 5.2-5.4 qt's.. i have 5.4-5.7 written on my filler cap. it really depends on how much comes out, which depends on overall viscosity, where the oil was before you drained it, and how long you allow it to dribble out. in practice i'm typically around 5.5-5.7qt's. |
I put it up on 4 stands, while the oil is draining I inspect all bushings and fixtures.
And then rotate tyres. Yes, every time.....because vehicle maintenance is fun. |
This is typically how I drain the oil and haven't had any issues. I'll put it on 4 stands when it needs to be level though (like rear diff and transmission fluid changes).

I just drive onto ramps. Same thing, less work. It's fine if you're not doing a 100% oil change, as long as 90% of it comes out. Having it up on all 4 is nice sometimes because it lets you creep under there to check on everything. See how your exhaust flanges look, check for oil leaks, check wheel bearings...

Isn't the drain plug at the back edge of the oil pan? Wouldn't the car leaning backwards slightly get more oil out? What am I missing?
And there's always going to be some oil left over. It's fine, don't worry about it. |
If you flip the car upside down and spin it while draining, you can drain the oil completely from oil filler. And, as an added benefit, you don't need to change oil drain plug washer this way.
