perrin 2.5 exhaust rattle

Hey guys, i haven't:cheers: posted here much but usually stealth and read posts. I understand that the car does rattle when its cold but on my brz the exhaust rattles really loud sometimes when its completely warm, but if i shit to neutral it goes away. Any ideas?

Turn your S pipe. The one that goes before the muffler.

Ok I'll see if that helps, thanks

If you have the resonated version there could be a spot on the resonator that makes contact with the driveshaft tunnel. Check around the tunnel and if you have any area's that have less than 1/4" to a 1/2" of clearance you need to adjust your front exhaust mount on the back of the transmission.

I have tons of clearance around my mid pipe, but I'm also running their front pipe so I'm not sure if that helps with alignment or not.

@Fakm, keep us all updated on what you find. The PERRIN exhaust has a lot of points of adjustment, so you shouldn't have a problem getting it to fit just right, thanks!

Just installed my 3'' non resonated perrin exhaust leaving q300 behind.

Love the exhaust sound along my Invidia test pipe, motiv overpipe and turbo setup.

But there is a nasty rattle noise coming from the exhaust especially on cold start, at low rpm on 1st or 2nd gear is when the rattle starts, sounds like a nasty metal hitting each other just like a beat up car goes, i triple check everything and clearance is good nothing touching, i never had an issue with the q300 on the same setup, its bothering me a lot.

Sorry to hear about the rattle, since it sounds like you have a complete exhaust installed and you've already checked the catback, try checking the rest of the exhaust, maybe it's the front pipe? You might have to loosten the whole exhaust again to get a little more room.

I would say it has to be in the adjustment. Mine's been trouble free for over a year.

Let me know what you find. My Perrin 3" is on order.

I have about a little more than half an inch clearance between my 3" pipe and my drive shaft. So far it's been fine, is this enough room? When would I hear an issue, WOT, shifting?

That will be fine, if you've had it on for a while and haven't heard anything, you are OK. The exhaust really shouldn't be contacting anywhere, or making any strange sounds under any circumstances, unless you hit something!

This is what im having but cold and warm

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33788

Im 90% certain it has to do with the exhaust, i checked everything from over pipe to muffler nothing is touching, its very hard to put a GOpro or any camera under the car to hear whats going on while driving.

From what i can tell the sound comes from the middle, exactly where this pipe connects to the invida test pipe

Thanks for the vids. To me, it sounds like it's more of an exhaust leak than anything else. If it's happening when the car is sitting still, then it for sure wouldn't be a clearance issue, unless the exhaust is right up against the chassis, or there's something that's loose like a heat shield.
