I know there is already a thread on this but it seemed to not go anywhere.

Who has ran a front mount turbo with the factory hood then changed to a vented? An oil cooler and an upgraded radiator is MORE $ than a vented hood and i dont care how good your cooler is its hard to get air to move into a sealed box.
On a budget i honestly think vented with stock cooling system will be more beneficial.

majorly depends if you have a water cooled turbo

IMO the bottom mount turbo is better for heat. Although I would still recommend a upgraded radiator and an oil cooler anyway (or a vented hood). with a front mount setup, I have heard of people that have a upgraded rad and oil cooler still not being able to keep engine heat down, someone needs to do a compairison to see which effectively cools more, stock cooling and vented hood vs stock hood and upgraded cooling.

What has been said, water cooled turbos are the best option.

not sure where youve been looking at vented hoods but I'd go with seibon and it's not exactly cheaper than a koyo rad and a oil cooler kit :thumbsup:

One thing people may not have noticed is @CARNZ pieced together the coolant-cooled oil cooler from the new Forester XT. It's substantially cheaper than the air-cooled kits.

the draw back of that system, if it ever gets damaged, you will have oil and coolant mixing = bad :/

I suppose, but it would have to be the sandwich plate that gets damaged. It's an OEM solution so I trust that it's pretty good.

The XT cooler will be just as reliable if not more so than aftermarket solutions. it's just a sandwich plate and a bunch of hard lines. subaru have been using them for years.

his system(forester oem) runs coolant through a sandwich plate around the oil filter unlike other systems that run the oil through a seperate tank in the radiator.

The forester system is NOT as effective on a water cooled turbo since it is essentially doing the same thing. Running coolant through the turbo while oil is running through it. But if i was running an oil only turbo i would use it.
