Knocking on Startup?

So I've noticed recently when starting my car in the colder temps, when it's cold, it will make a noticable "knock" sound when I first turn it on.

It goes away, and the car doesn't make any other knocking sounds besides that, only when it's cold and it's the first start.

Should I be worried? :iono:

That's not what I'm experiencing. It's not when the car drops to idle, there's no problems there.

It's as it's clicking over, it sounds like it knocks hard right before it starts up.

I wouldn't be worried; the engine is a mechanical thing just getting limbered up......http://www.runemasterstudios.com/gra...mages/wink.gif

Ah, you said as you first turned it on so I assumed idle. My bad. In that case..I can't help you.

My BRZ does the same thing since day one when starting in cold weather, and I think others have report the same.

Nope, mine only happens for a split second, then never heard again.

Im also in Florida, I get 1-2 hard shaking knocks when I start my car up every cold morning. Perfectly normal.

Are you sure it's not the pre cat warming up...?

Nah, it's not that crazy. I'll try to capture a video next time I go out.

@636 its something like a few knocks after you start up the car for the first time of the day then its gone the rest of the day/occurs once a while right? If so I get it once a few start up due to the car being parked outside in the cold. The rpm do drop due to the knock from what I've seen.

No. This is not after a startup at ALL, it's DURING. It's as if the motor shakes so violently during turning on that it's knocking into something.
