Ethanol Vs Gas Cranking
I am currently working on improving cold start with e85 (mine is pretty good now, but it has been a bit blind). I am shooting for a second revision and I am hoping to put a little more science into the tuning. Does anyone have useful formulas for determining fuel mix flashpoints? I found this: http://www.dnr.mo.gov/pubs/pub2240.pdf
That link had a bit of useful information, but I am trying to use it a little better. That does seem to jive with the cold start temps issues that people are having since the flash point of ethanol is above 60 degrees and gas (No ethanol) is about -45. The Wikipedia table for autoignition jives with the fact that e85 is safer for boost. |
you might have higher levels of water in your gas because of the ethanol????

I am not having cranking issues myself. I am currently working with @shiv@vishnu to further improve the driveability of his OTS tunes. I think this second revision is looking really good. Here are my cold start videos:
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdXILwaWxxg"]VID 20140124 112851 - YouTube[/ame] [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mws6n7lW-8U"]Another cold start. Actual temp: 17° - YouTube[/ame] The second shows 27 degrees on the dash which I would have preffered, but it was actually about 17. It dropped quickly after filming. |
