What do you consider low oil pressure?
I'm in the process of installing an Innovate MTX Oil temp and pressure gauge. It has the ability to setup alarms for what you deem to be low oil pressure, and high oil temperature.
I was just wondering what the general consensus was on what those figures are? |
In the day, when I was building old school engines, the general rule of thumb was 6 psi per 1000 rpm was a minimum. Don't know how that would apply today.

Now that you know what was "good" from ol FRSFirestorm and humfrz, back in the day, you can sit back and wait for some 21st century information ...... humfrz |
9 psi

I'll say 10psi. When the engine is warm my idle pressure is probably around 16psi.
As far as temperature I would say 240. People have certainly seen higher on track days and whatnot but that's what I set mine to. |

On a street engine, you want about 10psi per 1k rpm. I.e. at 7500 rpm you want 75 psi. This goes up if its a race engine etc, I run 11 on my engine :) Depends on what oil you use as well (as to what reading you get). |
I believe Subaru specifies 7psi minimum at idle. I typically observe about 1 bar per 1000 rpm.

Oil pressure sensor located in oil gallery on the top of the block.
|
Interesting.
Is this the stock location? |
No, the factory oil pressure (switch) and oil temperature (sensor) are located just below the oil filter on the front of the motor.
