The plate helps keep air flow around the radiator and not escaping through the gap in the engine bay. The part looks beautiful and installs easily. Manufacturer description: The flow of air is not only limited to the outside of a car. To maximize cooling capabilities, a radiator needs a direct flow of air to allow an engine to maintain consistent temperatures on the race track. Because of structural gaps above the radiator, the flow of air could escape making the radiator not as efficient as it could be. To help improve the flow of air into the radiator, APR Carbon Fiber Radiator Cooling Plates can be utilized to channel the flow of air directly to the radiator. This will improve the efficiency of the radiator while adding a high-tech, race inspired look to your engine bay. Features:
Writeup / Review as seen on our blog The beautiful and functional cooling plate from APR for your 86 / FR-S / BRZ is a great addition to your engine bay that is both affordable and easy to install. We recently got one of the first on the market from APR to install on our shop Scion FR-S – check out the pics below! Retail price on the cooling plate is $152 – get it through Guerilla Racing with free & fast shipping. APR Carbon Fiber Cooling Plate – Scion FR-S / Subaru BRZ http://blog.guerillaracing.com/wp-co...ng-plate-3.jpg http://blog.guerillaracing.com/wp-co...ng-plate-5.jpg Adding this new cooling plate to our FR-S was a total breeze. The kit includes cutouts for all of the stock nuts / bolts and hood latch, making for a truly plug and play installation taking under 20 minutes (or 30 minutes if you’re like me and clean everything under the hood while you’re at it). The carbon fiber one piece cooling plate is extremely light and has a high quality polish and shine to it, making it one of the first items noticed when opening the hood. It has an OEM fit and finish — very typical for APR products! http://blog.guerillaracing.com/wp-co...ng-plate-4.jpg http://blog.guerillaracing.com/wp-co...ng-plate-2.jpg The cooling plate is not just an aesthetically pleasing item – it closes the gap in your engine bay to make sure cooler air doesn’t escape from your radiator section. This gap makes the radiator not as effective as it can be while adding a race inspired & high tech look to your engine bay. http://blog.guerillaracing.com/wp-co...ling-plate.jpg Tips for installation (installed on our Scion FR-S, but Subaru BRZ / Toyota 86 is same install) :

This does look good, but it looks like it wouldn't fit with the Vortech intake box without some trimming, can you confirm this?

Hate to be 'that guy" (I dont really)...
But is there any testing of data to show this product actually increasing cooling? |

Hey,
There is no data as of yet from APR about that, but they are labeling the part as helping the cooling efficiency and not just a cosmetic part. Sorry we don't have any hard data about it though. @reyruiz191 Most likely you would need to trim it. |
