Anyone having problems with vibrations?
 

Hey guys, long time lurker. Just decided to register a few months ago.

My car has been vibrating a lot. It seems like it's struggling. It started today when I was going to work. I haven't driven my car since Sunday, after the snowfall. And sat in the garage for 2 straight days. Then work day comes, and I started the car fine and heated it up for at least 12-15minutes before leaving. But when I got into the highway, and I started going 110-120km/h. The car started to vibrate pretty hard. It seems like I was on a massage chair. After 10 hours of work, I went home and tested it out again. And the same thing happened. My Brz has never done this before until now. I don't want to take it to the dealership yet until I figure it out why it's happening. Since the dealer will prolly just say "The car is supposed to do that" or something like that.

If anyone has any opinion, advice, or if it happened to you. Please let me know.

snow/ice jammed up in the wheels?

Hmm, that could be true actually. How do I go about of getting rid of it or lessen the snow so it'll stop vibrating?

crawl underneath your car and see if there is snow buildup on the wheels/axles/whatever

thaw the car and use your weapon of choice to get the ice/snow out of there.

get a stick or something and get the snow/ice out of there.

It shouldn't really be too hard to figure out

During that crazy ice storm a couple weeks ago I used my ice scraper to remove the ice from my wheels - but it was mostly on the outside surface.

Are you on the stock rims or using steelies?

Just run it through a car wash, problem solved.

I like that choose your weapon idea. I'll see today before I go to work how I go about it.
I'm on steelies right now. And from the looks of it, it does look like it has snow/ice jammed up.
Car wash? I never go through a car wash in gas stations. You think it would solve the problem? I usually wash it myself. Haha.

Others have experienced this. I have on several cars. Find a heated parkade for a couple of hours. I recommend against bashing the ice out for two reasons: it won't work unless you get it all off which is quite hard to do and there's a risk of damaging the wheel paint.

A hand car wash is another solution, just spray the wheels with hot rinse water until the ice is gone. Don't wash the car if you are intending to park outside, the doors and locks may freeze solid. In other words, if you have access to heated parking problem solved. If not then a car wash will provide the hot water you need but don't wash the car itself. After washing the wheels just drive around a bit and heat up the brakes to dry off the brake calipers.

Not necessarily, the wash may not melt all of the ice and snow, as well as if its very cold out when you exit it could just freeze in the wheels again.

I've seen cars parked overnight indoors that still have ice and snow build up in the wheels.

Hmm... I guess a coin op is the best solution. I just have a feeling that the water will just freeze on the wheels again since it's quite cold outside.

Have you changed your oil recently?

Take it to a place to get your oil changed. Casually mention that you noticed a buildup of ice and snow on the wheels, wouldn't it be great if they helped removed that when they have it up on the lift?

That's true as well. Maybe they could. I'm still at 2300 km. Changing the oil at 3000 km. So maybe I can do it earlier.

Not sure if this is related - but I have noticed that after parking for awhile (i.e. overnight), when I start it up and drive around, the brakes have some grinding noises (and you can feel some light feedback as if the disc isn't smooth).
It does go away as I drive, so I'm thinking that it's temperature related (maybe overnight ice buildup)?
However I'm parked in an underground condo garage, and temps are above freezing...
