Clear coat scratches...
Tried to take the dealership protective film goo off, and this is what happened: :confused0068:
http://i.imgur.com/uf5utdl.jpg It goes on for about 6 inches on the drivers side fender plus another 2, 4 inch long scratches near the rear passenger side window.... What's the best way to get rid of them? |
Starting from the least aggressive based on how it looks from the picture, I would first try a rubbing compound or heavy swirl remover with a medium to heavy cut polishing pad. If you don't have a machine buffer you can try to polish it out by hand. If that fails you can wet sand. I'd go with 2000 grit. Don't be shocked at the haze left after wet sanding. After wet sanding, use a swirl remover and polish until its not even noticeable.

For swirl remover/rubbing compound, which would you recommend?
I've been looking at Meguiar's Scratch x 2.0. |
I'd use at least a Porter Cable DA. Then hit it with Menzurna FG400 compound, then finish with Menzurna SF 4000 or 4500 polish

I'm a fan of Meguiars Ultimate Compound (plus you can buy it locally). Haven't tried it on the 86's paint yet though.

You can try Meguiars or 3M compound. Just make sure you follow up with a polish afterwards and repeat until you can't tell there was ever anything there. Then top it off with a sealant or wax. In the event a compound/heavy swirl remover won't work, read up on wet sanding.
