Marks on car
 

I just took delivery of my brand new FRS. However, I'm having a little problem..
Because I took delivery on a rainy/cloudy day, I couldn't see the details really well..

I have it on both sides of my car. Does anyone know if it's okay to use hand soap to try to remove it?

It might be a bit hard to see.

Just my thought. If you risk messing things up you would be in trouble. I would take it back to the dealership and point this out to them as a flaw. Let them correct it and if a mistake is made let it be theirs and not yours.

Quite a drive from my house to there.. Don't really wanna go there unless it's an emergency.. Is it okay to use hand soap on these car paint?

Are they straight lines? I had some very similar lines on my roof from the protective film used in transport. If that is the case I strongly recommend that you DO NOT try to scrub them off. Only thing you'll do is leave scratches in the clear coat trying. Go get a clay bar kit and focus on that area. It will easily pull the contaminants from the paint and not destroy the finish if used properly.

that looks like glue residue from the white protective film they put on cars int he factory. get your car detailes and I bet those marks will be gone.

And yes, the lines are super straight. Do you guys it will work if I use a microfiber cloth and use some hand soap and water to remove it without damaging the paint?

You seem stuck on this hand soap idea. I wouldn't use hand soap. Clear handsoap is great for cleaning up cloth items with minimal water but I think that you'll just end up scratching the car because it's simply not sudsy enough to lift on the dirt that is around these glue lines.

Get yourself some car wash soap, microfiber mit, 2 buckets (google two bucket method), some microfiber towels to dry and head down to the local carwash. I realize that it's winter in VA but most carwashes have warm water in the spray bays and a faucet (clean water, not reused) for you to fill the buckets. Spray the car first, use the foam gun if they have it (NOT THE BRUSH), then wash the car by hand and finish with a high pressure spray. When you wash, concentrate on washing completely first, then come back and wash around those lines. Your Spring detail will clean up any scratches you pick up.

Yeah as others have said, that's from the protective tape. I had that too. If you don't want to wash the car in the winter, you can use some quick detailer or bug/tar remover and wipe it off using a microfiber towel.

Just a question, I have some goo gone in my house, can I use it on those residue without damaging the paint?

Hand Soap. Sir you may need to learn how to wash a car before you ruin the paint on your new FR-S.

Put some rubber kitchen gloves and waterproof boots on and your hands wont get cold.

Go to Autozone. Buy some high quality car wash.

Meguiar's Gold Class or Deep Crystal Car wash or.. Do not get that wash + wax garbage. 2 microfiber mitts, 2 microfiber drying towels, and 2 buckets. One mitt use only for the body of the car, and the other mitt only use for cleaning the wheels. Spray car with water. Put soap in bucket, fill with water. Work from top to bottom. Clean a section at a time, washing off the mitt and getting new soap from the buckets after every section. Hose all the soap off the car. Dry using a couple drying towels or by driving down the street.

Do not continuously scrub an area unless necessary, the more you touch the car while washing the more you put fine scratches into the paint.

Apply wax after. You may need to check another tutorial on that.

TLDR: If you want to learn how to wash a car, hire a detailing specialist in your area to handle the initial cleaning of your car and watch him do that. I'd recommend searching for a person who specializes using Meguiar's products, (or search for any other high quality brands), and is using the newest Meguiar's DA microfiber kits etc.

Some people say they've used goo gone on car paint (leaving it on for a short time) and say it's fine. Others have said they used it and it took off the clear coat.

Personally I wouldn't risk it on a brand new car.

Easier to just get it detailed if you can afford it. That way, it'll get clay bar'd to remove all the contaminants from shipping as well as giving it proper protection.
