hid bulb/ballast swap
I can't find anything on this topic sorry if it's already been covered.
Okay so I have a genuine phillips hid bulb and ballast upgrade in h11, as these are quite pricey I'm wondering if there's a way either I can get a h11 bulb to fit in the winjet headlights (h7) or is there a way to plug the h7 into the h11 ballast? Are the ballasts specifically designed for one globe or are they universal in the bulb end? So a h7 might plug into the h11 ballast and save me changing my whole hid kit. Also do these come in bixenon or is the mechanical flap the only way? Anyone with winjet headlights come across this problem? Maybe just using the headlights for lows and as the drls are in the headlights doing a foglight retrofit for the highbeams as the drls are relocated? Any help is appreciated :thanks: |
Ballasts don't care what bulb you plug in. (Unless of course you factor in D4S bulbs)
I'm not too familiar with those Phillips ballasts but I'm assuming they use the amp connectors if you're talking about using different rebased bulbs. If so, there's no problem. Also, "mechanical flap" is bixenon. The flap moves to expose what would be the high beam. |
Firstly, Philips (one L) does not make rebased HID kits. They only sell D1, D2, D3, or D4 bulbs and ballasts, although I'm not sure they even make the ballasts anymore.
Secondly, just find a set of H7 HID bulbs that have the same connectors as your ballasts. More than likely, like @Andrew025 said, you have ballasts that use AMP connectors, like what you see in this picture: http://www.auto-electronic.net/hidlamp/D2H-1.jpg The other type of aftermarket bulb connector is KET, but these are rare and you generall won't come across these: http://i00.i.aliimg.com/wsphoto/v0/6...-shipping-.jpg In any case, just get the bulbs and be on your way. |
That's exactly what I was after, thanks so much guys. Hopefully this thread can help others with the same problem!

Has anyone tried using their H11 HID kit with the winjet headlights yet? I'm having issues with the brightness output of my HIDs, they are really dim. All I did was splice the power wires that went to the Halogen H7 bulb that came with it into my HID ballasts and plugged the bulb into the assembly.

That's my guess anyway, assuming it's wired correctly. |
