Inside the Rear End is Shredded!

Change your rear diff fluid.

Krispeee 12-13-2013 06:32 PM

Do you mean the rear differential?

I was about to ask that same question.

charged86 12-13-2013 06:40 PM

pretty sure he means differential

Muskokan 12-13-2013 06:50 PM

Sooo what conditions do you drift in?

What mods?

humfrz 12-13-2013 06:53 PM

The OP is from the south and I'm guessing is over 50 years old ....;)

Yes, "rear end" OR "rear-end" ...... :D

humfrz - from SOUTHERN Ohio

Mmmmm... some wear is normal on a new car as the gears have to wear in. Pics would have been more helpful :)

So then he should start checking his rear end about every 10 years at that age

MY REAR END BLEW AN O RING - OH MY GOD !

What to do !

Them torpedos work good (not the cream [no penetration]).

Preporation H is over hyped -

Oil change after break in is not.

Routine fluid replacement is healthy for all cars.

Sudden unexplained metal cancer is dubious.

I get suspicious about mods and trolls making wierd posts to generate forum activity.

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean there isn't a conspiracy !

Gotta change my diff oil again ! and again! and again ! and again ! -
Oh never mind think I'll have more beer instead ---------------------- hic brrrrp

What exactly did it sound like? I might be having this issue...

mfbmike 12-14-2013 05:11 AM

Uh, countless threads showing people changing their diff fluid show metal shavings on the drain plug. It happens during break in.

/confused

Siege 12-14-2013 07:08 AM

It's not just the ring and pinion that are wearing during break in but also the internal gears of the Torsen differential.

The first fluid change will definitely have a large amount of material with following changes having significantly less.

zooki 12-14-2013 08:26 AM

Changed my fluid @6K miles and it was just like you described. Changed it again @30K miles and it was a lot cleaner. Coming up on 40K miles and no problems.

Mikem53 12-14-2013 10:18 AM

It's quite normal to have metalic paste and shavings on the mag drain plug for the diff when new. Gears, clutches breaking in, that's when most of the wear occurs..
But it seems you have an issue going on if u have noise and 30k+ miles
