Very nasty grinding on fast corner exit from LSD?
 

Hi everyone, new owner here. I am hoping for some help with a noise on my new '14 BRZ.

I'm going through break-in and first attempt after 750 miles to take a 90 degree left turn aggressively to test limits of adhesion, I hear a wicked grinding noise coming from the rear for 1/2 second from the LSD. I would be in 2nd or 3rd doing around 35mph and punching it on turn exit.

Weight is loading up the right rear corner but I don't know if this is normal grinding or something wrong with fluid level or the diff is still super tight.

I will be changing fluids when I tick over 1000 miles this weekend however concerned about the noise after giving the car "some stick" and aggression.

The torsen in my Supra never protested this way but that could simply be it's well broken in and I never encountered it!

If tc wasn't all the way off that's what you heard

Nasty sound indeed. I'm wondering if the increased forces will actually add wear to the suspension components over just letting the tires wear down from sliding without TC.

Yeah I've gotten this too from time to time. I would hear a grinding noise then the TC icon in the middle flash. Is this normal when going through an aggressive turn?

I am confident it is your traction control braking one wheel. Happens to me now and then on leaving t intersections and yes, the first time it happened I thought my car was imploding. As an experiment try turning your traction control off. Be ready for rear end break away

I've always wanted to turn everything off when I go through a tight corner, but I am afraid of the consequences on public roads ...

Go to a skid pan and have safe fun there.

That's just the traction control stabbing at the rear brakes. Nothing to be concerned about but you can get rid of it by turning the traction control all the way off.

Thanks for the feedback, folks! I'll hold both buttons down for 5 seconds and then test it in a safer area.

I tried this in Sport last night and the same thing happened. I did feel the rear end shift subtly and both corners brake just as I straightened out, scrabbling for traction.

Even with TC and VSC on, there's still plenty of zip and cornering capability just driving around town and feeling like taking a turn faster.

Hold down your traction control button for like 5 seconds. No need to hold the sport button as well.
