Overpipe Installation Questions

I currently have the Perrin catback and catted front pipe. I'm looking to add the overpipe and I have a few questions for the people who have done this mod.

When installing, I know some people remove the heat shields in order to not have to jack the engine up. In the long run, will this hurt the car? Do you replace the heat shields after you install the new pipe, or just leave them out? Any specific reason for keeping them off or not?

For the people who jacked the engine up, the heat shields stay in correct? Any clearance issues?

Thanks for the help

The heat shields are attached to the pipe they won't fit the Perrin pipe. I personally haven't had or heard of any issues with the perrin pipe without the heat shield, but I also haven really pushed mine since I installed it. If you're concerned about heat you could wrap the overpipe before installing it.

As for installing save yourself some hassle and just unbolt the right rear engine mount and jack the engine up. I tried removing the heat shield and getting it out that way but it was just a wast of time jacking it up was quick and easy.

Heat shields are on the OEM over pipe, aftermarket over pipes don't have heat shields.

Btw, jacking up the motor is a hell of a lot easier than taking the heat shields off, IMHO.

Jack up engine, no heat shield on aftermarket. No issues either after track days and hard daily driving with full engine-back exhaust.

Only took 5m to take the heat shields off and wiggle the pipe out the back. Don't know why some folks complain about taking them off as they are so easy to remove.

Every time we install an overpipe we just jack up the motor a little to make the clearance. Much easier than fussing with the heat shields.

Where are the best jacking points on the motor without denting anything?

Block of wood under the oil pan to spread the load so you don't dent it.

Another vote for heat shields.

If it takes longer than 5 minutes or the bolts are rusted, jack the engine up

So by not fussing with the heat shields, you leave them in? Or you take them out once you jack up the motor and remove the factory overpipe?

The heat shields are wrapped around the factory overpipe. They come out attached to it if you jack up the engine and remove it that way.

I'm with many others and jacked the engine up to remove mine. Easy Peasy.

If you go HERE, you will be able to read our instructions prior to actually purchasing the part.

Hopefully it helps clear it up for you a bit!
